[Highland Park] Sewing machine needles

I've got three packages of sewing machine needles size 11 (lightweight fabrics). Can anyone use them? The packages are so old, they are marked 30cents! If I haven't used them in this time, I'm obviously not going to. So, they are yours for free if you would like them. I don't sew very much on lightweight materials. Sherry Goldman

[Highland Park] Monthly potlucks

About every four to six weeks on a Saturday night, Marty and I like to host a potluck at our house. We generally have about 8-12 people (maybe more now that the list is growing). Most of us are semi-vegetarians at least, meaning we prefer a plant-based and healthy diet, and there are a few complete vegetarians, and occasionally a vegan. We love gourmet international food of any type, and prefer quality and variety over quantity. We usually start at around 8, eat all together, and then play some games. We decide on which games based on the wishes of the crowd on that particular night. People often bring their favorite games. There is no official ending time to the party. Marty and I are night people, so people are welcome to stay late. The next one planned is the Saturday of Thanksgiving weekend, November 27. We would enjoy getting to know some new people. So, if you would like to become part of a circle of friends that get together regularly for fun and camaraderie, please email or phone (412-215-9631). Since Marty and I prefer smaller, more intimate gatherings to large crowds, we do not invite enough people to guarantee a turnout. Also, we consider our potlucks as invitations to our home and not vague general announcements. So the only thing I ask is that you RSVP if you would like to come. I have a DVD I made of the Presidential and VP debates (all but the middle Pres. one) so I could watch them on another machine. I'm planning pitching it since it is old news. But before I do, I wanted to make sure no one wanted it. Let me know if anyone out there wants it.

[Highland Park] Monday at St. Andrew's

The All Saints Music Festival at St. Andrew's concludes this evening, Monday, November 8, at 8 p.m., with a concert performance by the Pittsburgh Festival Orchestra, under the direction of Dr. Melissa McBride, with the St. Andrew's Festival Chorus, under the direction of David Durkop. The program will also include Peter J. Luley, organ, and Linda Morgan-Ellison, piano. The concert will present music by Gabrielli, Gigout, and Beethoven, and will include a presentation of Schumann's Third or "Rhenish" Symphony. The concert, like all Festival services and events, is free and open to the public, and a reception will follow. St. Andrew's is located at 5801 Hampton Street, corner of Hampton Street and North Euclid Avenue, in the East End Pittsburgh neighborhood of Highland Park. Bruce Robison

[Highland Park] Free program to finish high school diploma

Communities in Schools, the nations largest stay-in-school network, is pleased to announce the opening of its City Diploma Plus Training Program (DPTP) based at the new Kingsley Association Center. DPTP offers students who have left school a second chance to earn a diploma from their home (Pittsburgh Public School District) high school. The curriculum depends on the credits needed to finish high school and allows the student to advance at his/her own rate. We have a 1 to 3 teacher to student ratio. Students can complete their needed credits between 2:00pm and 8:00pm Monday through Thursday, and between 12:00pm and 4:00pm on Friday.
