[Highland Park] Good things to do with your leftover yard sale items
Dear Neighbors I hope everyone enjoyed the Yard Sale and Bryant Street Festival. If you have yard sale items that you did not sell, you can keep them out of the landfill and out of your basement by donating to the following places: GOODWILL accepts clothes, housewares and small furniture. They are on Penn Circle South and accept donations on weekdays from 11 am to 6 pm and there are some weekend hours too. http://www.goodwillswpa.org/goodwill-stores CONSTRUCTION JUNCTION accepts building materials, house fixtures, furniture, yard items. They will pick up larger items. http://www.constructionjunction.org/pages/donate OFF THE FLOOR PITTSBURGH accepts furniture and will pick up. http://www.constructionjunction.org/pages/donate AMVETS will pick up most everything. http://www.amvetspickup.org That's a short list. There are many more. Happy Donating, Nancy
Great list! I would also like to add the Habitat for Humanity ReStore at Edgewood Towne Center, next to Planet Fitness. They accept household goods, including furniture, building materials and appliances. Proceeds go towards helping local families with affordable housing. A lot of nonprofit agencies throughout the city, such as Women's Center and Shelter, accepts donations. There's a list of items wanted on their website and how to contact them. Other great places to donate your unwanted items could be some of the local homeless shelters, like East End Cooperative Ministry or the Family Support Centers. There's a Family Support Center for the East Liberty neighborhood in the Kingsley Center. On Jun 3, 2013 7:12 AM, "Nancy Levine" <nlevinearnold@gmail.com> wrote:

RECYCLE BRASS INSTRUMENTS: River City Brass Band is collecting all unwanted brass instruments for the youth brass band "Horns for Africa" which help Ugandan children learn music, sustain families. Maestro James Gourlay is planning to travel to Uganda and deliver them personally. James can be contacted at Jgourlay@rbb.com or phone 412-434-7222, ext. 210. This is just another way of recycling our unwanted goods for a "good" cause.
