Dear Neighbors, Thank you for your supportive messages in light of our recent burglary. The burglar is in custody at the Juvenile Detention Center. He’s 16 years old and was student at Carrick High School. He worked alone. The Police Auto Theft Squad did a fantastic job. This kid is responsible for around 15 car thefts in Highland Park, Point Breeze, and Squirrel Hill. I was assured that he’s looking at at least 4 years of incarceration. I wanted you all to know about this good outcome. Joan -- Joan Soulliere Sent from my mobile phone.
Thank you so much, Joan, for posting this encouraging news, and thanks to our police for such good work. I also appreciated the police report at the HPCC meeting last night. The officers present were patient and helpful in response to many questions. I took away the advice to contact 911 without hesitation for help; report every crime so police have a record of all that’s happening and where; petition Commando Lando and our councilperson to request additional patrols; faithfully implement common sense home security; and communicate with neighbors (perhaps forming block watches) to increase awareness and security. I was glad to meet Officer Jeffrey Crawford, the zone 5 Community Response Officer. Thanks to our HPCC leadership for organizing and hosting these regular opportunities to discuss community matters, and to neighbors who voiced concerns and offered suggestions.
