Union Project announces new art classes beginning in March. For more information, or to register call 412-363-4550x2, email justin@unionproject.org, or visit www.unionproject.org/Programs Mosaic Mural Installation Class #6C1 Create a mosaic mural installation at Union Project! Students enrolled in this class will learn how to create glass murals. Students will install a glass mosaic mural in the Union Project Studio. All other class materials and tools will be provided. Tools will remain the property of Union Project but will be available for use during class sessions. This is an 8-week class beginning on Thursday, March 30 from 6-9 pm. Classes continue every Thursday evening until May 18. Cost for this class is $125 per student. Cost of materials is included in fee. Additional tools may be required. Deadline for registration is March 10, 2006 Bowl Making Workshop Class #6C2 This beginner level workshop will kick off the ceramic studio offerings at Union Project. Students will learn basic wheel throwing techniques, specifically focusing on creating bowls. Students will have access to both electric wheels and kickwheels. Day one will be spent working on throwing techniques and bowl shapes. Day two will focus on trimming feet and other surface decoration techniques. This is a weekend course. The class will be Saturday and Sunday, March 18-19, from 9 am to Noon. This class is limited to 6 beginning level students. Cost is $100 per student. Cost of clay is included in fee. Additional tools may be required. Deadline for registration is March 10, 2006. Wheel throwing for Beginners. Class #6C3 Students will learn basic wheel throwing techniques in this 8 week class. Students will focus on throwing cylinders, bowls, and other basic shapes. Students will work with a basic stoneware clay. The final 2 class sessions will focus on basic glazing techniques for electric kiln firing. This class is open to 6 beginner level clay students. This is an 8-week class beginning on Tuesday, March 28 from 6-9 pm. Classes continue every Tuesday evening until May 16. Cost for this class is $175 per student. Cost of clay is included in fee. Additional tools may be required. Deadline for registration is March 10, 2006 Hand-building and Majolica Glazing Class #6C4 Students will learn and explore a variety of hand-building techniques including pinched, coil, slab and slump-mold construction. The class materials will feature a rich, orange-red terra cotta clay, perfect for majolica glaze work. Students will also learn this glaze technique where brightly colored stains can be painted on top of a pure white base. Majolica ware originated in renaissance Europe, and has proven to be a lasting technique favored by collectors and ceramic artists. Students can learn this technique easily, but may use it to develop complex and vivid images on the surfaces of their work. This class is designed to be both comfortable for the beginning clay artist and challenging for the experienced student of ceramic art. This is an 8-week class beginning on Wednesday, March 29 from 6-9 pm. Classes continue every Wednesday evening until May 17. Cost for this class is $175 per student. Cost of clay is included in fee. Additional tools may be required. Deadline for registration is March 10, 2006. Union Project Stained Glass Classes In this class you will learn to repair and restore stained glass windows. This course will take you through simple repairs to complete disassembling and reassembling of historic 100 year old stained glass church windows. Completed windows remain the property of the Union Project. You will learn how to cut and replace broken or missing glass, glaze, lead, solder and putty a window. This course will give you enough background to make your own new stained glass windows or restore your historic windows. Weekend intensive classes cost $250 per person. Class #6SGB: Weekend Intensive, March 24-26, Friday 6 pm-9 pm, Sat and Sun 9 am - 5 pm, Lunch Provided Registration Deadline March 17.
