[Highland Park] Evensong at Candlemas
The regular "First Thursday of the Month," 8 p.m. schedule for Choral Evensong and Recital at St. Andrew's, Highland Park, coincides this year on February 2 with the observance of the Feast of the Presentation of our Lord in the Temple, otherwise known as the Purification of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Music includes an Ave Maria by Tomas Luis de Victoria and There Shall a Star, by Felix Mendelssohn. Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis, in B minor, by T. Tertius Noble Sentences by R. Ayleward. The service will be followed by a musical recital presented by St. Andrew's Organ Scholar, Stephen Lipnichan. All are invited to the reception in Brooks Hall after the recital. St. Andrew's is located at 5801 Hampton Street, between North Highland and North Negley Avenues, one block south of Bryant Street and four blocks south of the park, in the East End Pittsburgh neighborhood of Highland Park.
