[Highland Park] Another plea to clear sidewalks
Dear Neighbors, I am seconding Jan's plea to clear sidewalks of ice and snow. I slipped twice yesterday while walking down Collins St. on my to Dilworth, and then later fell very hard on a sidewalk on N. Sheridan. The rest of my day was lost to extreme discomfort and lower back pain. If you are not able to shovel, at least toss out some ice melt. If you cannot do that, ask a neighbor to help you. I know of several young neighborhood shovelers and would be glad to help you get in contact with them. As a parent of two older school-aged children, I would love to have them go out and shovel on days when there is a two hour delay! Thank you, Joan
The City of Pittsburgh used to have a “Snow Angel” program that helped remove snow for the elderly and disabled. Unfortunately this program was dissolved in 2013 and participants received a letter in the Fall suggesting they contact county wide programs like “Open Your Heart to a Senior” which is funded by the United Way. An article in the January 3, 2014 Trib reports that many more seniors have registered for assistance than volunteers to help. There is a desperate need for volunteers. So, if you’re able to and want to volunteer to help a neighbor in need, consider contacting the Open Your Heart to a Senior program. To register as a volunteer the Snow Squad program, or for more information on Open Your Heart to a Senior, call 412-307-0071, visit www.oyhs.org, or send an email to allegheny@openyourhearttoasenior.org Holly Sisk Realtor GREEN Historic Home Specialist Certified Negotiation Expert (CNE) Five Star Real Estate Agent (2010,2011,2012,2013) Cell - 412-377-0015 RE/MAX REALTY BROKERS 5608 Wilkins Ave Pittsburgh PA 15217 412-521-1000 x400 On Feb 7, 2014, at 9:44 AM, Joan Soulliere <joansoulliere@gmail.com> wrote:
