Alert re Euclid Ave. for everyone, especially the visually impaired and those who use mobility devices
Dear neighbors, Unfortunately the Stop Signs at intersections with traffic circles on Euclid have been converted to Yield Signs, increasing the risk of accidents at these corners. To the best of my knowledge, this was done without any notification to the HP community. This can be especially dangerous for the visually impaired who may not be aware that such a change has been made as they attempt to cross Euclid. Please be extra careful on Euclid and surrounding streets and please alert your visually impaired neighbors and those who use mobility devices. Cars and trucks at these intersections often come very close to the sidewalk to get around the circles, especially with all the construction on Euclid. Even with Stop signs, bicyclists and those on scooters often didn’t stop even when there was other traffic or pedestrians. I know because I live on Euclid and I both drive and love to walk. Even when I am driving, I find it scary with these Yield signs when another car and I both approach a circle around the same time and the Yield signs don’t require either of us to stop. The concrete centers of the traffic circles are wide and the room for cars and trucks to circle around is small so the possibility of an accident feels much more likely with this conversion to Yield signs. Last year, DOMI (the Department of Mobility and Infrastructure) had said it would maintain 4-way Stop signs around these traffic circles because studies showed increased risk to the visually impaired and those using mobility devices. It is very concerning that the Stop Signs were suddenly changed to Yield Signs without any notification. Please be careful on and around Euclid, and alert your neighbors. Ditto. I noticed the changes this week. I am going to alert our council office and the major. Has anyone else notified anyone? Thanks LeeAnn On Sun, Aug 21, 2022 at 8:01 AM janet jai <jai@vision-and-values.com> wrote:

Yield signs were added on my block of Elgin and Euclid where stop signs were in place. Why did we need these inconvenient circles in the first place. No one consulted me or asked me to sign a petition before adding one to my street and the street above me. If stop signs are on the circles why did we need the circles? They were to slow traffic or so I was told. Traffic stops at a stop sign. You cant get slower than that. They are a hazard in other ways as busses come up Euclid and have to maneuver around them riding up over them. Whoever decided to spend all that tax money on a frivolous inconvenience should have spent it resurfacing my street that looks horrible from Highland to Euclid and beyond. I have requested resurfacing for over 3 years with no reply or action. Who is the instigator of all these "IMPROVEMENTS"?
