Thank you to all of you that took the time to explain/share your own experiences. It seems that there are equal numbers of people who have and have not experienced this strange habit of "honking" every time you arrive home. The majority of people agreed that it very rude and totally unnecessary. Most people suggested that it may be the way that some families "announce that they are home" to their small children. I still find this to be very unnecessary, why not just call them rather than disturb the entire street? I may decide to approach these neighbors, or hhopefully they are regular readers of the listserve and will get the hint. I addition, I had many people tell me to get ready for the lawn chairs that will line the streets with the first snow...are you kidding? And people make fun of New Jersey!!!! Thanks again!
