Special Offering at St. Andrew's
On All Saints Sunday, November 4, we of St. Andrew's Church will have a special offering basket available to receive contributions for special gifts in the name of St. Andrew's in response to the shooting at Tree of Life - Or L'Simcha Synagogue in Squirrel Hill Saturday morning. Cash offerings will be received, and checks may be made payable to St. Andrew's with "Special Offering" on the memo line. If we're not able to get to Church next Sunday we may also mail contributions to the Church Office, 5801 Hampton Street, 15206. The offering will be presented by St. Andrew's to the special fund that has been created by the Tree of Life - Or L'Simcha Congregation for families of those killed and for those injured, and to HIAS, the Hebrew Immigration Aid Society, in memory of those who died in the attack and to honor those injured and all families and loved ones. Here is information for those who would prefer to make their gifts individually: Tree of Life - Or L'Simcha Congregation is receiving funds to provide direct assistance to families of those killed and to those who were injured. Checks can be made directly to them, with an enclosed note simply indicating that purpose, and mailed to them at 5898 Wilkins Avenue, Pittsburgh PA 15217 As we have read, the shooter in this horrible act had indicated in social media that he was particularly focusing on the organization HIAS, the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society. HIAS was founded and continues to work with support of Jewish immigrants, but has expanded over many decades to support immigrant families of all races and backgrounds. Checks with appropriate memorial designation may be mailed to HIAS at 1300 Spring Street, Suite 500, Silver Spring, MD 20910. With continued prayers for all affected, and with thanksgiving for the generous and affectionate response that has characterized our city and region in the past few days.
