Langston Hughes: Harlem’s Jazz Poet February 8, 7:30 PM • February 9, 4:00 PM Eastminster Presbyterian Church The Harlem Renaissance produced some of our most prolific and powerful cultural figures. Chief among them was Langston Hughes, a novelist, social activist, poet, and musician. Hughes was one of the earliest innovators of a new literary art form called jazz poetry, which emphasized folk and jazz rhythms, giving an air of improvisation to his works.
