I'm very sad to pass along the word of the death earlier today of our friend the Rt. Rev. David Keller Leighton, Sr., 11th Bishop of the Diocese of Maryland of the Episcopal Church and 13th Rector of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, Highland Park, Pittsburgh (1957-1960). It was a wonderful privilege to welcome Bishop and Mrs. Leighton to St. Andrew's some years back, and he and I communicated frequently by e-mail. A man of deep Christian faith, personal strength, wisdom, and tenderness of heart. Also a hoot! Great sense of humor. The Good Shepherd Window in the narthex of St. Andrew's was repaired and conserved in honor of Bishop Leighton. He loved his few years at St. Andrew's and as a resident of our Highland Park neighborhood. Please pray for Carolyn, who is in poor health, and for their children and all the family.
