[Highland Park] [Update.unionproject] Union Project Rent Party THIS Saturday
Union Project Rent Party- Harlem Renaissance Style In the 1920s, Harlem artists would hold parties with live music, food and drink and would pay their rent with admission earned at the door! In the spirit of the 1920's Harlem Renaissance – where innovation, creativity and culture spurred social change and equality – join the Union Project as we host our very own 'Rent Party'! The Union Project has recently purchased its building and has a new mortgage to pay off. Help pay the rent at our Rent Party THIS Saturday, June 3 to support the diverse new East End Renaissance of art, culture and community! Dress to boogie & skiffle 1920's style to jazz, soul & blues provided by Omega Love and the Christian Dillingham Trio. View incredible artwork by Peabody High School Visual Arts & Union Project Artists. Check out the Not So Silent Auction and enjoy fine food & drink. Tickets, on a sliding scale of $10-$50, are available online at www.unionproject.org or at the door. Founded four years ago by young Pittsburghers, the grassroots Union Project has raised some $3 million to renovate the formerly abandoned Union Baptist Church and start new community and economic development programs, engaged over 2,000 volunteers in innovative hands-on restoration work, and opened renovated space to house the offices and studios of nine community organizations, entrepreneurs, artists and people of faith. A boardroom and two large halls are available to rent for short or long term use. Union Project’s new café Union Station is now open for business. The café is open seven days a week, 7 am to 10 pm and has a full lunch and light dinner menu. Visit www.unionproject.org for more information.
