[Highland Park] Reservoir #2 and trails below Stanton?
2 questions: What’s the scoop on reservoir #2? Does anyone have any info. on the (rumored) trail restoration below Stanton Ave. and between Stanton and Wash. Blvd? The area I’m wondering about would be between the Stanton Ave. entrance and across from the lake, but below the road and between Stanton and Wash Blvd. Thanks, Steve Karl
There is a new trail in that area. It is accessible from the side of Pool Grove (across from the volleyball beach) that overlooks the new stairs--near where the fire engine used to be. It runs from there to just below the Lake Point shelter, where it makes a loop and meets itself part way back. Look for blue blazes. There is also a spur (not actually marked as part of the trail) that connects to it near the Pool Grove end and goes to the bottom of the stairs. From that point there is a somewhat older trail that ends up at the bottom of One Wild Place (aka Hill Road) next to the bus stop at the intersection with Butler. BTW the road that is Stanton Avenue up to the lower entrance of the park is called Lake Road inside the park. Bill Ghrist On 6/15/2012 11:51 AM, Steve Karl wrote:

There is also a trail that comes down from Elm Grove to the bike oval on Washington Boulevard, parallels Washington Boulevard heading back to the river, and then connects up to the hillside via either a steep path or a "switchback" type path a little further down. Warning, however, a very large tree branch has fallen on the lower part of Elm Grove Trail. Most of the blue blazes were in chalk, however, and many have washed off- I think it was from an event a few months ago..... Thanks to whomever cleaned up the trail that leads towards Butler Street and one wild place! All of the tires (probabaly 20 or more?) and all the garbage from down there are GONE!!! And thanks to the trail stweards who are developing all the trails- it's a delight to walk through there.
