First, thanks to everyone for their suggestions. Since some people asked, I'm posting the suggestions on the list. I omitted those that weren't clear, required some kind of membership, or were too far away. Neepa 1) The largest number of recommendations were for: AAA in East Liberty (Baum Blvd) – you don’t need to be a member. 2) Kinko at East Side near Walgreen's and Whole foods 3) Debbie at Huston and Sons on Main St. -it's just over the Highland Park bridge, Sharpsburg exit, then right onto Main St. They are on right side -big new building with parking lot and signage. Their #is781-(TAXS) 8297 and she's there everyday 4) Any state representative or senator's office has a notary available and free of charge. Call Dom Costa or Jim Ferlo's office for times they are available. 5) I am a Notary Public and I live in Highland Park, on Farragut Street between Jackson and Wellesley. I am happy to do notarizations by appointment. I am not available today, but could make almost any other day work to meet with you, if you are still in need of a Notary. I also wanted to let you know that by law Notaries are only allowed to charge a maximum of $5 per notarization. If anyone tries to charge more than that per notarization, then they are breaking the law! Susan Davis McIntosh, Notary Public susan.davis.mcintosh@gmail.com 412-335-9371 6) Having been one myself, I can tell you that ALL notaries are required by law to charge the same price for notary services. There is a clause which lets them charge for “additional services” for which they can set their own price, and in this area there are unfortunately many unscrupulous or just plain not-so-bright notaries who will tell you this means they can charge you extra for a notarization. It doesn’t. I haven’t looked for a while, but I believe for a simple notarization the fee is $5. If you have any questions about what a notarization would cost, just call PAN, the PA Association of notaries at 1-800-944-8790. They can confirm what I tell you, can find a notary for you, and if anyone tries to charge you more than the required fee to notarize your signature, they should be reported. The only place in this area that I have personally found (though I don’t need them very often) is AAA in Motor Square garden. You do NOT have to be a member, the line is usually very short, and they (as they should) only charge you the fee set by law. By the way, all notaries are required by law to display a prominent sign listing their fees (both the ‘notary’ fees set by the state, and the fees for ‘other’ things, such as photocopying. .
