Followup: I spoke with our city councilperson and did research. We CAN act to calm Heberton speeding. We CAN get speed bumps (technical term, "speed cushions"). *Now is the time to act!* There's a new person in charge of this department, she has authority, she is ready to act. What I learned: 1. Deb Gross is very aware that more and more people are going faster and faster on Heberton hill 2. Waze and GPSs a factor. More cars shortcutting through to suburbs. 3. Fresh paving. Newly paved streets = more speeding by both neighbors and cars cutting through. 4. The lane markings were not redone after paving. Plus which, no 25mph signs, no Children at Play signs. 5. *Speed bumps are NOT a problem for emergency equipment or snow plows.* Actions: 1. GET ATTENTION. Heaviest paper trail gets fastest action. - *Write to Deb Gross's office, voice your concerns, demand speed bumps on Heberton Hill, demand an electronic speed tracking sign be placed on Heberton Hill, demand speed calming. Act now, the office is assembling documentation.* Use this email: Emily Bell, Constituent Relations Manager: emily.bell@pittsburghpa.gov or call: 412-255-2140 - Call 311, report speeding. - Call 311, demand speed limit signs, speed bumps. Remember: speed bumps are NOT a problem for emergency equipment. - Call 311, report city work trucks speeding. City trucks: frequent speeders. - Call 311, report school buses speeding. - Call school bus companies and report speeding bus numbers (buses also a problem) 2. Measures we could take meanwhile to create awareness - There is one electronic mph tracker sign ("traffic minder") available in our district. Besides requesting it from Deb Gross, *we could buy our own* as a group. - Chalk "25 MPH" hugely onto the pavement on sunny days - Try orange cones down middle of hill. Anyone have some? - order & put up 25MPH and Children Playing signs on our own - set up a table, wave, pass out cookies iced with "25," thank drivers for slowing down (I am actually frustrated enough to do this) - I'm open to any ideas to get attention and create awareness. I'll circulate with information at our block party. Joy
