Streetlights for safety are a fine idea, and in the interest of seeing the night sky and reducing light pollution, I hope the City and the neighborhood will consider installing fully focused or at least full cut-off streetlights which do a good job of lighting the street and the area around the light pole and keep glare and reflective light into the sky to a minimum. For more info on safety lighting that reduces unnecessary light pollution, see this website: Illinois Coalition for Responsible Outdoor Lighting http://www.illinoislighting.org/fixture2.html And for reasons why light pollution matters: http://ngm.nationalgeographic.com/2008/11/light-pollution/klinkenborg- text Mary Beth Steisslinger, MS Restoration and Systems Biologist Urban Ecology Collaborative www.serviceforearth.org marybeth.steisslinger@gmail.com On Apr 2, 2009, at 9:59 AM, Ethan Winograd wrote:
Cheryl is right - I have called zone 5 about this stuff in the past, it is definitely a concern not only from a crime perspective but also from a public health perspective as there are items left behind from the various activities going on up there.
While we are on the subject of Jackson Street, I would love to see a speed bump or a stop sign put in somewhere between Heberton and the farmhouse. Thats a real long stretch and people get up quite a head of steam through there and there are almost always kids playing on the street.
Anybody know how you go about getting something like that done?

This would be the perfect time to have street lights installed on the one block at the end of Jackson St just before Connecting Road and Farmhouse Drive. It is the only section of the neighborhood that I've noticed has never had street lights. There is alot of sexual activity, trash dumping etc. that happens along that stretch because it is so dark. Please support a request for lights in this area. Cheryl Jackson Street
