Hello Neighbors- Many of you have heard the news coming out of Nicaragua <https://www.nytimes.com/2018/05/03/opinion/nicaragua-daniel-ortega.html> about youth-led mass protests and violent uprisings in response to government repression. I serve on the board of directors of Building New Hope <http://www.buildingnewhope.org>, an almost 30-year old organization based in Pittsburgh. Building New Hope is best known for our work in importing fair-trade, organic and bird-friendly coffee <http://buildingnewhope.org/coffee-project> (available locally in Whole Foods and the East End Food Co-op). Lesser known is our 100% financial support of two independent schools and secondary school scholarship recipients <http://buildingnewhope.org/education-project>. Each year, we conduct a raffle fundraiser <https://squareup.com/store/building-new-hope> to support our work in which the winner receives an all-expense paid trip for two people to Nicaragua. This year, it is not safe or advisable to send our supporters on a trip to Nicaragua to see our work in action. Instead, we are offering a $1,500 cash prize for the raffle winner. Tickets are $100 each - or buy five tickets, get a sixth for free. I urge you, if you are able, to support the raffle this year. Our work in supporting youth education, economic development, social enterprise and humanitarian development is more important than ever in Nicaragua.
