EARLY DETECTION OF AUTISM There will be a special program this Thursday, August 3rd at 5:30 PM featuring Jana M. Iverson, Assistant Professor of Psychology at the University of Pittsburgh (see bio below). She will be speaking about her research on the Early Detection of Autism. Please join us for this great program in the Board Room at the Union Project on the corner of Stanton and N. Negley and pass the word to others. A wine and cheese reception will be served. Before coming to Pittsburgh, Jana received her Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of Chicago (1996), spent two years in postdoctoral research at Indiana University, and served on the faculty for four years in the Psychology Department at the University of Missouri-Columbia. Since 1991, she has been an international investigator at the Italian National Research Council in Rome, Italy. She is the co-editor of a book and author of more than a dozen articles on the relationship between hand gestures and language in childrens communication. Her current research, funded by the National Institutes of Health and the National Alliance for Autism Research/Autism Speaks, focuses on the early development of infant vocalizations and motor skills and the transition to gesture and language in typically-developing infants and in infants who are at especially high risk for Autism Spectrum Disorder.
