Sent by: Hope Academy Arts Reply to the sender PSO Concert this Saturday at East Liberty Presbyterian Church Be There... It's Not Square! This weekend our very own world-class Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra leaves Heinz Hall to visit us in East Liberty for a special Community Engagement Concert. If you "go to the Symphony" downtown, this is your chance to see them perform in another venue -- the breathtaking Sanctuary of East Liberty Presbyterian Church. If you've never been to see the PSO, and are unsure about the whole classical music thing, this is your chance to try it out in a little less formal environment. It will be a shorter program (about 90 minutes), there will be lots of kids and families (four music groups are partnering on this event and their students are playing before and after the concert), and the PSO's engaging resident conductor, Lawrence Loh, will intersperse the music with amusing and informative anecdotes about the pieces being played (by Mozart, Bach and Grieg). All this, and more, for less than the the price of a movie ticket! WHAT'S THE DEAL? THERE'S MORE! Student Recitals Before and After PREMIERE of Hope Academy's EL CEO! TELL ME MORE! WHAT'S THE DEAL? Five Bucks! for kids (18 and under) and seniors (60+) Adults (those in between) pay 2 x Five Bucks! ($10) in advance (call 412-441-3800 x11) or $15 (you do the math) at the door Open seating. PREMIERE of Hope Academy's EL CEO! EL CEO (East Liberty Community Engagement Orchestra) A Community Orchestra for Kids (and their Families) Who Have a Passion for Music! Hope Academy's new East Liberty Community Engagement Orchestra (EL CEO) was inspired by the National System of Venezuelan Youth and Children's Orchestras (El Systema), whose young members are a source of national pride, much like football stars in other Latin American countries. Participation in Hope Academy's EL CEO is free and open to young musicians, and their musically-inclined parents, of all ability levels. Our first 30 musicians met for the first time in September and have had eight sessions together, under the direction of conductor Federico Garcia (Artistic Director of Alia Musica Pittsburgh) to prepare for their first performance at the student recital prior to the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra Community Engagement Concert at East Liberty Presbyterian Church. Join Us! Musicians of all levels are welcome. Weekly rehearsals take place on Saturdays at East Liberty Presbyterian Church from 3:00 to 4:30 pm throughout the year; the winter term begins January 9, 2010. Singers and percussionists are invited to join one of our free "Voices of Hope" community singing and drumming choirs, which meet on Wednesdays after school. EL CEO is partially funded by the proceeds from the annual Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra Community Engagement Concert. A very special thanks to the PSO and, for their support of PSO Community Engagement concerts, the EQT Corporation. These organizations help make music education affordable, accessible and not a matter of privilege for children and families in our community. TELL ME MORE! Grace plays the violin in Dilworth's Orchestra, takes private lessons at Hope Academy, and plays violin in EL CEO For more information about the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, click here. The program for the PSO Community Engagement concert includes works by Bach, Mozart and Grieg. Click here for full program. The PSO's own Scott Bell and Jeremy Black will perform a duet for oboe and violin by Bach. Lawrence Loh is the conductor.
