Dear Neighbors: I wanted to inform you that someone is canvassing the neighborhood seeking signatures in support of the proposed convenience store at 226 N Negley Ave. The petitioner claims to represent "Bloomfield-Garfield Jubilee," a neighborhood association that does not exist, but which conveniently includes an amalgam of names that sound enough like either Bloomfield Garfield Corp, or Garfield Jubilee, to mislead people into thinking that its a legitimate organization. Please let us know if you signed this petition, and if you did so because you thought you were signing a petition in support of either Bloomfield Garfield Corp or Garfield Jubilee. You can let me know by e-mailing me at eric.jester@eastliberty.org Thank you for your help. Best, Eric Eric: I received a voicemail message from Sarah Perry that someone was canvassing her street yesterday evening on behalf of "Bloomfield-Garfield Jubilee", asking residents to sign a petition in support of the convenience store proposed for the site. The only persons who could have put someone up to doing this would be the applicants for the zoning change, I would imagine. Of course, we had thought that sitting down with them this week to help them understand why we are opposed to their application would have been useful. But if they're going to engage in such shenanigans, then our opposition to *anything* they propose is just going to be less receptive. Trust is a signifcant factor in relationships between people, and right now that have none with us.
