NIN Scholars Offers Unprecedented Free Online SAT Tutoring Program Neighbors in Need, a community-focused nonprofit organization, has created a groundbreaking SAT prep tutoring program for high school students. The free program, NIN Scholars, combines live online tutoring sessions with a Master Tutor and complementary online content. The pilot program will begin on January 7, 2015. NIN Scholars has partnered with Pittsburgh Prep, one of the foremost test prep companies in the state, to construct the innovative SAT prep program. Master Tutor Hoon Kim, a former Kaplan instructor and graduate of the Harvard School of Education, will lead the instructional sessions. Under his tutelage, Pittsburgh Prep has successfully helped more than 300 students raise their SAT scores by an average of 250 points. The curriculum will employ the contemporary form of teaching known as the flip model. Students will view prerecorded video lectures that introduce the fundamentals of each lesson and then participate in twice-weekly live webinars that will apply the learned knowledge through problem solving and a question and answer segment. The corresponding content and video lessons will be delivered to students through the popular learning management system, Schoology. The ultimate goals of the program are to help students increase their chances of acceptance into their ideal college and to improve their odds of receiving financial aid, regardless of financial or socioeconomic factors. "I established the program after observing firsthand, Hoon's teaching style and the impressive effects his course had on my own children's education. I decided that all students, regardless of their family's financial standing, deserved access to his level of expertise in improving their SAT scores," said Tom Dickson, founder of Neighbors in Need. "I realized that a program like this would allow for more students to have greater educational advancements, which, in turn, will lead to higher incomes over time, a greater range of employment opportunities, and ultimately healthier communities nationwide."
