A Prayer of Quiet During the 1970s a group of Trappist monks at St Joseph's Abbey in Spencer, Massachusetts developed a contemplative practice called Centering Prayer. This simple method of silent prayer is based upon The Cloud of Unknowing, a 14th century classic.
