Dear Friends of Scenic Pittsburgh, We here at Scenic Pittsburgh want to commend Pittsburgh City Council for their careful consideration of the proposed electronic sign zoning ordinance now before them. The ordinance to regulate electronic signs, sponsored by Councilman Burgess and amended by Councilwoman Harris, passed in standing-committee with 5 votes. The single no vote came from Councilman Dowd who is concerned that the "special lighting district" language may not adequately protect the public's right to a fair and open decision-making process. Councilman LaVelle abstained to study the bill further to be certain the legislation protects the sensitive Downtown and Cultural Districts. City Council has shown itself as serious about protecting the scenic landscape and architecture of Pittsburgh. We have confidence City Council will find common ground on this important legislation when they meet again on Monday. Sincerely, Dave Demko http://www.facebook.com/ScenicPittsburgh.org P.S. It is not too late for you to contact your councilperson and tell them how you feel about billboards in your neighborhood (www.scenicpittsburgh.org/council.html ).
