"We are ordinary people, yearning--perhaps unconsciously--for deep and meaningful structure in our lives in a world that is fast-paced and swarming with distractions. Like my monastic friends, we too live under vows: our baptismal vows, which are quite formidable if we take them seriously; and for many of us, our marriage vows, equally formidable. But we are ordinary, fallible people living ordinary, untidy lives that are, paradoxically, too often tightly and rigidly scheduled even as we feel overwhelmed and lost in linear time. "If we let ourselve be creative translators, the wisdom of centuries very different from ours can be a friendly guide." Margaret Gunther, _At Home in the World: A Rule of Life for the Rest of Us_, (Seabury, 2006),p. 15. It's been a tradition for many years that each summer a number of us at St. Andrew's will read the same book, then assemble for a couple of evening sessions of conversation. Margaret Gunther's book is available widely, in brick-and-mortar as well as online/virtual bookstores, and may also be ordered with a modest discount, via the St. Andrew's Church Office (call 412 661-1245 or see the sign-up sheet on the Welcome Table in Brooks Hall). Many thanks as always to our own Molly Montomery and her "Bookworks" store in Allison Park for the support . . . . Our two summer "Cottage Meeting" Book Discussion gatherings will be on Tuesday evening, June 19, and Wednesday evening, August 15. (Locations will be announced: call the office for any needed update or directions.) Many thanks to all--and happy reading! BruceR
