All Points Bulletin for Highland Park Super Volunteers and Handymen(and Women)! Your Neighborhood Needs You (and Your Toolbox) on Saturday, October 11th at 9:00 a.m. Tomorrow, Saturday, October 11th from 9:00 a.m. until early evening, your assistance is needed to help prepare community owned properties for display in the Highland Park House Tour. The Highland Park CDC, the non-profit, volunteer staffed organization responsible for the rehabilitation of 5635 Stanton Avenue and the ongoing restoration of nuisance properties throughout our neighborhood, is preparing homes on Mellon Street that are currently under reconstruction for display in the Highland Park House Tour. This year's tour is expected to draw thousands to Highland Park and we hope to display these homes to potential buyers and neighbors . . . but we need help! On Saturday, October 11th (yes, that is tomorrow) at 9:00 a.m. we will be meeting at 817 Mellon Street to "red up" properties that we all have a stake in. HOUSE TOUR October 18, 2003 from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm Twelve homes are on the tour this year plus the opportunity to tour the HPCDC renovation projects! Some of Highland Park's finest kitchens will be on display with local cookbooks available for purchase! Food Glorious Food will provide a special treat for tour-goers. The self-guided tour begins at St. Andrew's Church on Hampton Street. TICKETS ON SALE NOW Tickets are on sale now for $12 at the following locations in Highland Park: Enrico's Tazza d'Oro 1125 N. [Highland Park] 3rd Annual Scarecrow Festival

CREATE YOUR VERY OWN SCARECROW Everyone in the Highland Park community is invited to create a scarecrow between October 11th and October 25th and proudly display them in yards, apartment windows, balconies and other creative locations. The idea is to get as many scarecrows as we can along the streets of Highland Park. Prizes to be awarded in the following categories: - Funniest - Scariest - Best Dressed - Children's Category (8 and under) THE 3RD ANNUAL SCARECROW FESTIVAL On Saturday, October 25 from 12:00 noon to 2:00 pm, we will gather at the Farmhouse Playground at Grafton and Heberton Streets for food, fun, festivities, and the judging of the scarecrows. The Learning Club in Highland Park has the solution. Join The Movie Club!! THE MOVIE CLUB (no-school days during the school year) Parents: no need to take a vacation day from work when your children have a no-school day. Students: no need to become bored during those no-school days during the school year. Come to The Learning Club in Highland Park and enjoy a movie day. We will have fun by watching a movie, have a lively discussion around the themes of the movie, enjoy a lunch and snacks, and create projects based on the movie. Maybe you'll write a different ending, recast the movie, or find inspiration to start your own screenplay. The Movie Club is limited to 12 students per no-school day. [Highland Park] Volunteers needed for House Tour

The house tour committee is still in need of volunteers to be present in the tour homes on October 18th. A free ticket will be issued to anyone who can volunteer and volunteers will only need to be present in the homes for 3 hours of the 6 hour day. Sign up with a friend so that you both may enjoy the tour at no cost! We need approximately 20 more people in order to have enough people to cover the 11 homes that are on the tour. The hours of the tour are 11-5. Please help us accomplish this day of major positive publicity for our great neighborhood by volunteering for a very easy task for only a few hours! If you are interested in helping out (in any way) with the upkeep and design of the Highland Park web site, please join me at Enrico's Tazza d'Oro this evening at 7:30 pm. I'm looking for help in all areas you can imagine: web design, keeping the calendar updated, sending mail to the Neighborhood mailing list, writing text for the web page, taking photos for the web page, etc. I've been doing it (mostly) on my own since early 2001, so I can say with some authority that if we get a just couple of people to help out, it won't be a drain on anyone's time.
