Zone Five Officers made an arrest on Tuesday morning of a Daniel Montano of Mellon Street. We believe uses the tag "MFONE" or"ENOFM" He was arrested for damaging property at 121 South Highland, 115 South Highland and 6012 Penn Ave. If anyone has been tagged by his graffiti or knows someone, please email me with the information, so we can build a case. Mr. Montano is currently scheduled for his preliminary hearing in City Court on September 1, 2005 at 0830 and we would like as much community support as possible. RaShall M. Hi Neighbors, We're jumping on the e-band wagon and giving this list a try. Here's what we have . . . 1.) Walnut Dining Room Table - Jacobean 1920's art deco style; measures 5' x 3' 10"; needs to be refinished. Minor damage to scrollwork on bottom. Asking $250. 2.) Maple Dining Room Chairs - Colonial ladder back style; 5 regular and 1 with side arms. All must be recaned. Make us an offer. 3.) Crate-style arm chair, measures 31" x 27"; needs to be reupholstered. - www.unionproject.org - End of Summer Community Celebration this Thursday at Union Project! The Union Project will be hosting an End of Summer celebration this Thursday between 4 and 7 pm. Be sure to stop by for FREE FOOD from Hot Dogma, music by DJ SMI, and free kids art activities. The Union Project summer art and farmers market will continue with fresh produce from local farmers. Contact hilary(a)unionproject.org if you have questions. Create Mosaic Furniture at Union Project! Students enrolled in this class will learn how to create their own glass mosaic furniture. Students will have the choice of working on tabletops that will remain at Union Project for use in Union Station café or students can provide their own furniture to mosaic. All other class materials and tools will be provided. Tools will remain the property of Union Project but will be available for use during class sessions. Cost for this class will be $125 per student. Classes will take place on Saturday mornings from 9 am to 12 pm beginning September 17 thru October 22. Lots of volunteers are needed during the following dates to assist with the Magic Penny Garden, cable installation, painting, staining, and cleaning. Every Weekday, 10 am to 4 pm Saturday, August 27, 9 am to 3 pm Saturday, Sept 10, 9 am to 3 pm Saturday, Oct. 22, 9 am to 3 pm Glass Restoration and Team Building @ Union Project Do you want to build relationships with your co-workers, staff, or employees? Union Project is expanding its revolutionary stained glass restoration classes to the broader Pittsburgh business community. We would like to work with your business or organization to provide a valuable service in relationship and team building, while at the same time promoting volunteerism and service to the community. Union Project will host your group of between 4 and 12 individuals for half-day, full-day, or weekend long workshops concentrating on team building and the importance of good working relationships. Your group will assist in and/or complete the full restoration of a historic stained glass window that will be permanently reinstalled into the Union Project. Union Project staff skilled in leadership initiatives will lead the team building portion of the classes. Catherine Berard of Prism Stained Glass is the primary instructor for stained glass portion of the classes. Cost for each workshop is determined by the number of participants in each workshop. Union Project will work with your group to determine the workshop cost. Union Project Seeks Full Time Office Manager Office Manager will staff the front desk, phone and main email for the Union Project on a day-to-day basis. OM will handle daily mail, including entering deposits and paying bills using QuickBooks software. OM will maintain the Union Project database. OM will draft thank you letters and donation receipts for the ED to sign. OM will maintain filing system. OM will be in charge of ordering necessary supplies for smooth operation of the building. OM will assist in bulk mailings or other administrative tasks as needed. OM will participate in program development and implementation as able. On the subject of scams and fliers: I had just arrived for band practice (mid life crisis of some sort, I am sure) when our host was assailed by a nice woman collecting for an event (perhaps a sponsorship) at a local hospital (I think William Penn, can't be sure). After sending her on her way (having been assured that he personally gave the previous year), he checked a flier he had just received, and sure enough; this was a scam. He stepped outside to see where she went, and was lucky enough to see a cop car. He notified them, gave them a description, and told them where she went, while they decided to tell him what he did wrong in talking to her, rather than following her. Whether they caught her after this or not, I have no idea. Whether she is the only one doing this; I do not know. The upshot is this: Should someone come to your door asking support for anything; ask to see credentials. They should have an associated I.D. I suspect they should also be carrying a copy of a permit from the city, or Police. If they do not have anything, politely decline, send them on their way, watch where they go, and call the police.
