SHE MEANS BUSINESS If you'd like to hear the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra concert at Heinz Hall Thursday night (6/7), why not come early for the "She Means Business" program and networking opportunity. The event starts at 5:30 PM and is included in your ticket price. A cash bar and a light food concession are available. At 6 PM the guest speakers, Melissa McGavick, President of McGavick Interactive Coaching and Training and Marilyn Landis, President of Basic Business Concepts, Inc. will offer solutions to many of the challenges that face women in business. Then at 8 PM enjoy the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra Season Finale featuring Beethovens famous 9th Symphony and Mendelssohns Violin Concerto, performed by audience-favorite Sarah Chang. If any of you have information about a 2BR or 3BR house/apartment for rent in a range up to $750 with laundry hook-ups, dog friendly (we have a small Maltese - housebroken btw-), satellite TV allowed... it would be EXTREMELY appreciate it!!! [Highland Park] Walks in the Woods - Summer 2007 (REMINDER)

Let's take a walk in the park! The first "Walk in the Woods" of summer 2007 is this week--Wednesday, June 1, 2007 at 6:30 pm. Meet at the restored fountain and gardens on Reservoir Drive near the intersection of North Highland Avenue and Bunkerhill Street. The current weather forecast looks pretty nice, but when planning what to wear keep in mind that paths in the park can be uneven and/or muddy. The exact route we take depends on who shows up. If you plan to bring a baby, I suggest using something like a Baby Bjorn instead of a stroller. Please arrive promptly at 6:30 pm so we can begin the walk as scheduled. There is no need to RSVP. The Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy sponsors these walks in the four major Pittsburgh Parks. Each walk is led by volunteer docents who can tell you about what's going on in the park, park history, and can talk about the many different types of plants you'll see in the parks. The next walk in Highland Park is scheduled for August 1. The schedule for the other parks is as follows: Frick: June 13, July 11, & August 8; Riverview: June 20, July 18, August 18; and Schenley: June 27, July 25, & August 22. We are planning special Sunday Walks in the Woods in September with a special focus on park and area history. St. Andrew's Episcopal Church 5801 Hampton Street, Pittsburgh (Highland Park) Adult Programs, Focus on Jesus: Jesus and the Political World Sunday, June 10, 4 p.m. Two weeks ago at St. Andrew's New Testament scholar Dr. Ken Bailey reviewed the biblical record in a wonderful and creative exploration of the political impact of Jesus' words and actions in the context of First Century Roman Palestine--and with implications for every era and locale. Last week we saw again the wonderful film "Becket" and enjoyed a rich discussion of the clash of "church and state" in that famous story from English history. This Sunday, June 10, at 4 p.m., we are invited to a Round Table Forum, where each of us will be invited, as we wish, to share how our understanding of the themes and values of our Christian life has affected our approach to politics and government. We know at St. Andrew's that we will have a diversity of perspectives and life-experiences to share, and we look forward to an interesting and challenging gathering in a spirit of openness, curiosity, and mutual respect. After we've gone "around the table" with discussion and response, we'll move on to a Sherry Hour, with refreshments and more informal continuing conversation. All are welcome! Concluding Note: KDKA Political Reporter Jon Delano was originally scheduled to speak at this event. His schedule changed, and he won't be able to be with us. However, we are pleased to note in anticipation that Jon has accepted our invitation to be our featured speaker at the 10th annual St. Andrew's Lecture, this coming October 12.
