PennDOT - District 11 News *Highland Park Bridge Inspection Next Week in Allegheny County * *Pittsburgh, PA* – PennDOT District 11 is announcing bridge inspection work on the Highland Park Bridge and associated ramps in the City of Pittsburgh and O’Hara Township, Allegheny County, will occur Monday through Friday, October 24-28 weather permitting. Crews from the Markosky Engineering Group, Inc. and the Pittsburgh Rigging Company will conduct inspection activities on the Highland Park Bridge from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day. Single-lane restrictions will occur on the bridge in each direction. Additionally, single-lane restrictions will occur on Route 8 (Washington Boulevard/Butler Street) in both directions at the southern end of the bridge from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, October 24-25 as crews conduct ramp inspection work. All ramps will remain open during the inspection. PennDOT - District 11 News *Northbound Route 28 Off-ramp to Waterworks Drive/Freeport Road Closure Begins Monday Morning in Allegheny County * *Pittsburgh, PA* – PennDOT District 11 is announcing the closure of the off-ramp from northbound Route 28 to Waterworks Drive/Freeport Road in the City of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, will begin Monday morning, October 24 weather permitting. The Waterworks Drive/Freeport Road off-ramp from northbound Route 28 will close beginning at approximately 7 a.m. continuously through mid-November while crews from Swank Construction Company perform ramp reconstruction work and paving operations. The Fox Chapel Road/Waterworks Drive/Freeport Road (Exit 8) ramp will remain open only to Fox Chapel Road. Traffic to Waterworks Drive/Freeport Road will be detoured. Posted Detour Northbound Route 28 to Waterworks Drive/Freeport Road - From northbound Route 28 take the Fox Chapel Road/Waterworks Drive/Freeport Road exit (Exit 8) - Keep left towards Fox Chapel Road - Turn right onto Fox Chapel Road - Turn right onto Freeport Road - End Detour The work is part of the $15.32 million project to improve approximately 3.5 miles of Route 28 between the Delafield Avenue exit (Exit 7) and the Harmar Township line, approximately 1.75 miles north of the RIDC Park (Exit 10) interchange. Construction will include minor road widening of the southbound lanes near the Freeport Road on-ramp (Exit 8) interchange to allow for the existing lanes to be reassigned. At the completion of the project, southbound Route 28 will maintain two through lanes and an exit only off-ramp to Fox Chapel Road. Work includes reconstruction of the Delafield Avenue ramps, concrete preservation work on the Fox Chapel ramps, milling and paving work on the RIDC Park ramps, and bridge preservation work on all structures within the project limits. Additionally, highway lighting upgrades, ITS upgrades, green stormwater features, guide rail upgrades, rockfall area cleanouts and fence repairs, and other miscellaneous construction are part of the project. Single-lane restrictions will occur with crews maintaining at least two lanes of traffic in each direction during peak travel times and at least one lane in each direction during off-peak hours. Ramp closures will occur as needed, with many occurring overnight. The project is expected to be completed at the end of 2022. To help keep motorists informed as work progresses, PennDOT has created an email distribution list for Route 28 traffic advisories and construction updates. This is a message from Allegheny Alerts. Voters intending to vote in the November 8 election by mail-in or absentee ballot are reminded that applications must be received by the Elections Division no later than 5 PM on Tuesday, November 1, 2022. Anyone who has not yet applied is encouraged to do so now rather than waiting until the deadline to do so. Voters may visit the lobby of the County Office Building, Monday through Friday, from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM through November 1 to apply and vote over-the-counter. Voters will receive an application to complete which will be processed while they wait. They will then be provided with their ballot and all materials to vote and may return it while still on site or take it with them for return by the 8 PM deadline on Election Day. If not applying in person, the quickest and most efficient way to apply is online at http://votespa.com/ApplyMailBallot. As of 4 PM today, there have been 169,999 applications approved for mail-in or absentee ballots with 88,440 returned.
