[Highland Park] Forming a Brownie Troop at St. Andrews

Dear Friends and Neighbors, My name is Joan Soulliere and my family and I are moving back to Higland Park this summer. My daughter, Maeve, who is 7.5, has been a Brownie Girl Scout this past year in Massachusetts and has greatly enjoyed and benefitted from the experience. She was able to meet girls from all over rather than just her school. I have been in touch with the Pittsburgh Girl Scout Council and learned that there are over 50 girls on the east side waiting for spots in a Brownie Troop. I am willing to be a Troop Leader and have found a space at St. Andrew's Church for the twice-monthly meetings. Their best time is from 4:00-5:30. Are there girls out there in Highland Park interested in joining Brownies? I am a former children's librarian with lots of experience working with elementary school children and was the "Cookie Mom" for Maeve's troop this past year. I would love for this to work! [Highland Park] Gray and White Cat hit by car this morning

Hi neighbors, A mostly gray cat with a white belly and possibly white "socks" was hit by a car at Jackson and Negley this morning (Tuesday, 6/24/08) at around 7:15 am. After being hit, the cat ran off in the direction behind 824 N. Negley. The cat appeared to be fairly small, maybe 8 - 10 lbs. If you are missing your cat and she/he meets this description, you might find her/him in this area. Also - call the Animal Rescue League as they are the shelter where animal control officers bring stray and injured animals. Even if they don't have your cat now, they'll know to call you if a cat matching that description is brought in. Their number is 412.661.6452. They might have other suggestions as well. If you see the cat, it's best to call animal control - and post to this list in case someone will know the cat. I've been told that if an animal can be saved after being hit by a car, the ARL will provide medical attention to the animal in the hopes that the owner will call to find their missing pet. Dear neighbors, Thanks to everyone who replied to my request for glass block window work. There were several people who wanted to know what recommendations I received, so here is the list: Kind regards, Rebecca Portland Street ****************************************************** We have used Vince Mirror and Glass for our repairs for quite a few years now. Vince seems to work solely on his own, but he is expedient and his prices are really reasonable. We had about 6 blocks repaired in 2007 for $350 which included materials and labor. The repair is barely noticeable except for the new caulking. His number is 412-931-4994. *********************************************************** monroeville glass block. they have done many for me **************************************************************** We used Pittsburgh Glass Brick Co in 2004. Our basement had block window, but we wanted vents, so we replaced 3 windows with glass-block-vent-windows.. In the laundry room, we had a regular glass window and replaced it with a block window for the dryer. The cost in 10/04 was $520--parts and labor. ************************************************************* would recommend Andy (I forget his last name). I moved into my house on Heberton in January and got him to work on a large set of 2 windows in my basement the very next day. He took about 4 hours to do the window (block by block - he doesn't believe in prefabricated units). He is priced very reasonably and is very professional.
