[Highland Park] Cat spotted on N. Highland and Bryant

I was driving to work around 8:30 this morning when I spotted a cat sitting, quite happily, on the corner of N. Highland and Bryant Ct (right by Tazza D'Oro). I stopped, crossed over and checked to see if he had any tags (he had none). He was extremely friendly and social - even when a dogwalker stopped by with her dog (the two actually played with each other for a bit). This cat was a mixture of white with gray/orange/brown patches - I have no idea of telling how old he is. I'm only afraid that despite his confidence, he'd get lost/run over by a car. If this is your cat, please ensure that you know his whereabouts at all times - he seems adorable. Jay.

[Highland Park] gentle reminder

Now that the warm weather is here and school is out, I would like to make a few "gentle reminders" to my fellow neighbors. Many of us who are fortunate enough to have reached retirement look forward to retreating to our backyard sanctuaries. It seems as though every year around this time we hear from neighbors who are very frustrated with barking dogs. Please remember, it is not safe to leave a dog outdoors all day long, especially when the temperatures rise. Most often they are barking because they are uncomfortable. Also, as much as you may love your children, do not assume that your neighbors enjoy their blood curdling screams, temper tantrums and crying. Parents, please be considerate. You may not even realize it, but sometimes your screaming at them combined with their crying makes for a very unpleasant afternoon for the rest of us. During the last few weeks there have been numerous times that I was unable to sit in my own back yard and had to go inside just because of the noise level. Thank you, Carrie

My ferret, Tino, is currently looking for a new home. If there is anyone out there who is looking to adopt a young, healthy, albino ferret please let me know. I am in the process of moving to a new place where animals are not allowed. He is litter trained and comes with a tall three level cage, hammock, water bottle, food dish, food, litter, litter pan, documentation, travel case, and more. My other option is to take him down to the shelter, which does not sit well with me. Since, his chances there of being adopted are astronomically lower than by word of mouth. I check my email nightly and will be glad to answer by phone or email. Thank you, Dean.
