Dear Neighbors, Please remember to bring your costumed kids (all ages) & cameras to the Highland Park fountain this Saturday, October 31 at 3:30 for the first annual costume parade and pre-trick or treat pizza party!! This is a great way for the kids to show off their costumes before it gets dark & extend their Halloween celebration. Prizes will be awarded in the following categories: **FUNNIEST COSTUME! **SCARIEST COSTUME! **MOST CREATIVE COSTUME! **WEIRDEST COSTUME! PLUS: plenty of Halloween trinkets to give away for all costumed kids!! Thanks to all who stopped by the market last Saturday. A number of people mentioned that they had not visited the market in a long time and others said they had never been to the market! The East Liberty Farmers Market is really a jewel in our community, so I highly encourage people to support it. I plan to send out periodic update messages to the Highland Park list serve to keep everyone up to date on events at the market. For example, John and Val from Kennedy Farm are now taking orders for holiday poultry. It is not too early to stop down and get your order in. Their birds are excellent! There is also a lot of great fall produce at the market these days. And of course, we will be providing Kew Park Coffee- brewed and whole beans. We will also have fresh squeezed orange juice and cranberry juice. See you at the market- 5am till noon. The Lagnese Family cid:3339505830_185779785 cid:3339505830_185798236 ANNOUNCING THE AVAILABILITY OF KEW PARK COFFEE IN THE PITTSBURGH AREA New Coffee Bar at the East Liberty Farmers Market A new coffee bar opened recently at the East Liberty Farmers Market that features incredible coffee from Jamaica. Fresh brewed and whole bean coffee will be available at the market. Kew Park Coffee is being brought to you directly from the farm by the Lagnese family of Highland Park. The coffee is roasted and shipped directly from Jamaica to Pittsburgh on a weekly basis. It does not go through a distributor or wholesaler, and thus does not sit on a shelf in a warehouse. Freshly made juice is also available at the bar. This week will feature fresh squeezed Valencia orange juice, and freshly made cranberry juice. The East Liberty Farmers Market operates year round and is open every Saturday from 5 am until 12 noon. The market is located behind Home Depot. The East Liberty Farmer’s Market has been a part of our community since 1947! The market features a great variety of locally grown and made items including meats, fruits and vegetables, bread, eggs, cider, cheese and much more. The Kew Park Story Kew Park Estate is a well-known coffee estate located high in the hills of the parish of Westmoreland, in Western Jamaica. Coffee has been grown on Kew Park for over 200 years. Currently, a total of 35 acres of Arabica coffee is grown at Kew Park, and is widely regarded as among the best Jamaican coffees. The coffee farm is part of a larger 2,200 acre farm that features citrus and other fruits, as well as beef cattle, pigs, chickens and hardwood tropical trees—all grown and raised using sustainable methods. The farm also specializes in the production of essential oils and aromatic fragrances. Kew Park was granted one of the first “Estate Grown Coffee” designations issued by the Jamaican Coffee Industry Board. The Estate Grown Coffee status allows Kew Park to process and market the coffee both locally and for export. Kew Park is a family run operation—owned and operated by Peter Williams and his wife Gina Green. The Williams family has farmed Kew Park for five generations. They take great pride in the way they grow and process their coffee. [Highland Park] Kids Darth Vader Costume Size 9/10

For any of those last minute costume needs: I have a kids' Darth Vader costume, sized medium (my son was wearing 9/10's at that point), from last year. It was worn just once. The chest unit on it actually lights up. The mask was never worn since my son had a Darth Vader voice changing mask that he wore in its stead. It was $29.99 new, will sell for $10. I want to thank all of the generous HPers who donated National Geographic, Smithsonian, Budget Travel, etc. magazines for my daughter's class. The kids all *loved* the project. They were so excited to put together journals of their imaginary travels to Egypt, Japan, Italy, etc., as well as their "time-travels" to meet George Washington, Galileo, and so forth. (The magazines were absolutely gutted by the end, and have been placed in the recycle bin.) Thank you all very much! Laura Schaefer

[Highland Park] Moving boxes available

As we slowly unpack our new house here on King Ave, we have created a pile of perfectly good boxes for someone to take. Thus far, I had been passing my boxes over to Sam Al-Droubi, but he has now left, so I am looking for some people who want boxes to take over where he left off. Right now, I have mostly 3-cubic-feet boxes, with a couple that were bigger and smaller than that medium size. There's about 15; there will be more by the end of tomorrow. Eventually, I will also have picture boxes available, and another dishpack, and lots more paper, but I will be opening up the artwork dead last. Please let me know if you'd like the current stack of boxes! Or if you might have some interest in the picture/fragile boxes and paper later! Thanks! --Emily
