Hello Fellow Highland Parkers: I want to tell you about a feel-good film about Pittsburgh that's being shown this week at the Southside Works, written and directed by film maker Carl Kurlander (who also wrote and produced St Elmo's Fire). It's called 'My Tale of Two Cities' and it's about both Pittsburgh's and Carl's mutual mid-life crisis. It is an exploration of Pittsburgh reinventing itself for the new age of industry and technology. The film has been screening at film festivals across the country. After this run in Pittsburgh, it is going to be shown up on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. The film opens tomorrow, Friday March 19 at 7:30 pm at Southside Works and will hopefully run all week if the turnout is good. PLEASE come see it. It is delightful, and well worth supporting! Dear Neighbors, Save the date: Saturday, April 17 for the Annual Highland Park Kids Spring Party! Time: to be announced, but it will start in the morning, to coordinate with the tree planting event LOCATION [NEW THIS YEAR]: St. Andrew's church yard and multipurpose room We will provide activities for Highland Park kids so their parents can help with tree planting. We'll plant flowers in pots to take home, have tree related activities, crafts and games, and snacks. We will also have a book sale, so start collecting your used books to donate to the sale! Older kids are invited to help run the book sale. Community service credit will be given to those who assist. If you are interested in helping to plan this event, please send me an email. Takes about 5 minutes out of your day, but think of all the time you will save on the internet doing anything! Make sure you fill out the online application at http://www.google.com/appserve/fiberrfi to promote Pittsburgh and the surrounding areas! It only takes about 5 minutes! We also need as many people as we can get to join, so recruit all the people you know in any way possible! Google is also looking for city officials to... help with the planning and installation of the fiber network, so if you know any, have them help!
