July 20, 2010 Dear concerned community member: On July 29, 2010, from 7pm-8:30pm, my office will be hosting a panel discussion at the Teamsters Temple in Lawrenceville regarding Marcellus Shale drilling and its impact on the urban environment. We will be opening our doors at 6:30 for community members and leaders to explore and discover information at a variety of organizational tables that we would like to have in the room. We would be honored if you would attend this special and critical event to learn more about how drilling can impact your community. Marcellus Shale has come to our attention, most recently through indication that some property owners-almost 60 to date-- in District 7 have signed away the mineral rights to their properties to Marcellus Shale drillers in our region. Our office is responding by creating legislation that will respect the rights of property owners and businesses while protecting our valuable City resources including waterways, riverfronts, street infrastructure and the health and well-being of community members. We would like you to attend and ask questions of the environmental, social and industry groups present on July 29th. Hi neighbors, I have had success in the past in reporting abandoned vehicles -- it takes a ton of persistence and follow-up, but it is possible.. I called 412.255.8999 -- the abandoned vehicle number for the city. Before calling, you should know the block where it's located, the plate number, make, model, color, and if possible, if it has state inspection stickers up to date in the window. They'll have to send a letter to the owner and give them a chance to move it, and if it is indeed abandoned it will be towed - (again, after a lot of calling and persistence on your part). I've also tried these in the past, but didn't get as far with it, if I recall: Abandoned Vehicles City of Pittsburgh Mayor’s Office (412) 255-2500 Parking, Tow Pound, Vehicle Issues: To report an abandoned vehicle, call 412-255-4776. Is there a way for us to get a more visible and consistent police presence at Negley and Stanton? It seems to be a trouble spot for the neighborhood.
