My husband and I have lived in Highland Park since we moved back to Pittsburgh in 2006 - and we love it! We are selling our house at 6639 Stanton Avenue, but only because we took on a bigger renovation project in Highland Park! We haven't left the area, and no plans to! Our townhouse on Stanton is a great place - we fixed it up and gave it a nice facelift with new hardwood floors on the first floor (designer style...as seen on HGTV), refinished hardwood on the second floor, a new kitchen and bath. It is the best kitchen you'll see in a house this size...I love to cook, and the kitchen is spacious, bright, and absolutely great. We also added the patio which opens up nicely into a sizeable yard. We loved it there with our two pups and entertained frequently. It's a townhouse, but we had many get togethers at our place - it has a nice flow for entertaining. And, of course, the location is great - right across from the tennis courts that were just refinished last year and a hop, skip, and jump from the park entrance. The Highland Park Community Council will once again be sponsoring the annual Bryant Street Festival Sunday June 5th from noon to 5:00 pm. The festival is a celebration of Highland Park and it's people. We are looking for artists or crafters from the neighborhood interested in displaying or selling art as well as performers including dance, instrumental, or vocal groups. [Highland Park] Another stray...

Hey, all. My partner and I have been feeding a very skittish, stray black/brown tabby. We haven't been able to get close enough to get a picture of her. We believe it's female, and quite possibly pregnant. Anyone missing a kitty? She's probably been out for quite a while, based on how scared she is. I'm planning on trapping her soon (before she has the kittens so that we can socialize them and adopt them out.) If anyone knows of a missing cat, or would be interested in helping out, (or possibly adopting a cute little kitten in a few months...), please let me know. Thanks! Rachel

I just found out that the Pittsburgh City school's last day is June 15th. And, that would be the first day of the cooking series for ages 7-12 that I had scheduled. The NEW SCHEDULE for ages 7-12 will be: June 16th/11:00-1:00 PM: breakfast June 17th/11:00-1:00 PM: lunch June 18th/ Saturday - 11:00-1:00 PM: dinner June 19th/Sunday 2:00-4:00 PM: desserts Foods prepared will be 'age appropriate' and suggestions are welcomed. COME AND ENJOY AN EVENING OF HISTORY OF THE EAST LIBERTY VALLEY Thursday April 7, 2011 5 pm to 8 pm 200 North Highland Ave. (Corner of Broad St.) Sponsored by the East End/East Liberty Historical Society, this event will start with a wine and cheese social hour, followed at 6:00 pm by a talk by Dr. Charles McCollester on: Three East Enders to Love -- George Westinghouse, Billy Conn, and Gene Kelly Dr. McCollester will be sharing this and other perspectives from his new book The Point of Pittsburgh being sold in all major bookstores. He is a retired professor of Labor History at Indiana University. From his travels abroad he brings us a unique insight on history. Copies of Dr. McCollester’s book will be available for sale. Also featured will be a showing of the latest DVD of the photography of Charles “Teenie” Harris. Teenie Harris (1908–1998) photographed the events and daily life of African Americans for the Pittsburgh Courier, one of the nation’s most influential Black newspapers.
