The University of Pittsburgh Early Social Development Research Lab is seeking healthy, typically developing children between 12 and 48 months of age to help us with research on the development of positive social behavior such as helping and sharing, or the development of body perception. I recently posted on the listserve about needing sheets for my mother's hospital bed. Many people responded, but I didn't actually connect with all of them when I replied. I was starting to feel defeated in my attempts. I returned home from visiting my mom and felt completely overwhelmed. Then I got a knock at my door and there was a stranger who had come to drop off sheets. He actually didn't have any lying around the house, so he went out and bought some! It may seem like a small gesture but it really touched me. I have to admit I broke down crying. The relief I experienced because of his simple gesture gave me hope that the tiny things I can do for my mom actually do make a difference. I don't want to put his name on here without his permission, but I did want to share. It made my day. Thank you for everyone who responded and rest assured I'm still looking for sheets. [Highland Park] Rally for Public Education This Saturday

Dear Highland Park Friends, This Saturday in the Schenley Plaza in Oakland from 11 a.m. - Noon, there will be a rally for Public Education. The rally is just one hour, but it will be powerful. TV, newspapers, and radio will be there. We are hoping to get as many people, from all walks of life, at the plaza. We are there to show Harrisburg education funding needs to be restored to our public schools and universities. When public education suffers property values go down! Neighborhoods suffer! Even if your children go to private school, you have a stake. Even if you have no children, you have a stake. People from schools and school districts all over Western Pennsylvania are coming.
