Hey all - I am sure many of you have heard of the intentions to move a police station into East Liberty. East Liberty Residents and Black Community Leaders have made it clear that a police station in East Liberty is not wanted and will lead to further marginalization of community members. If you want to STOP THE STATION, there is a call for action to Flood the Phones of the Mayor and City Council everyday until August 24th. Tell the Mayor and City Council: 1. No new police station in East Liberty 2. I've added a new category (age 50+) to the HP Save the Post Office Contest

At an HP neighbor’s suggestion, I’ve added another category to the HP Save the Post Office Contest. This new category is for anyone 50 or older. You can enter by sending me your ideas about “Why I think the post office is important and should be saved.” There will be only one prize in this category. It will be awarded to the best original piece of writing that I receive on this topic from someone 50 or older. Please include your name, the category (50+), and the area in which you live (HP, Friendship, etc.). Otherwise, the rules are the same as for the contest for anyone 12 or younger (as stated below). Good luck! Remember this contest is being listed only on the HP Listserv so you have a great chance of winning in your category. The Young Person's HP Save the Post Office contest: Contestants must be age 12 or younger. Contestants should e-mail me a paragraph (at least three sentences) or more saying “Why I think the post office is important and should be saved.” Each winner will win a piece of post office merchandise (examples below). There will be two winners. One winner will be drawn at random from all young people entered who send at least a paragraph on the topic. The second winner will be chosen based on what I believe is the best original piece of writing submitted about why saving the post office is important. This contest begins August 17 and ends August 27 this year. I’ll announce the winners the week after Labor Day. As part of the entry, I need to know the name and age of the young person entering, and the area (HP, Friendship, Shadyside, etc.) where they live. I’ll talk with the winners to find out which piece of post office merchandise they would like, and we’ll agree on a prize (has to be within my budget). Then I’ll buy the items and have them shipped directly to the winners. Examples of post office merchandise (all of which are within my budget) include: The Art of Magic Kit with Stamps, a Marvin Gaye screen-printed poster, a U.S. Mail Carrier Toddler/Kids Costume (Halloween is coming), a U.S. Mail Carrier Dog Costume (Halloween is coming), an Earth Day t-shirt (currently back ordered), a T-Rex 3D Puzzle & Notecard Set, and more. ISO: bmx bike

Anyone have a bmx-style bike collecting dust in a garage? Specifically, my son is looking for an 18- or 20-inch bike that would be suitable for use at a skate park or the Wheel Mill. Free leather couches

Hello, My mom is getting new furniture and has two leather couches shed like to get rid of. They are in good condition. She does have a cat but there aren’t scratch marks or anything like that on the couches. She lives in Gibsonia (it takes me about 30 minutes to get there from Highland Park) so you’d have to be able to pick them up. They will be available in a week or so when her new furniture arrives. Super Playground Redesign & Rebuild Project

HPCC is excited to share with you the Super (Duper!) Playground project! The Super Playground was created in 1991 by a group of dedicated neighborhood volunteers and has served as one of Pittsburgh’s most beloved play spaces and the scene of countless memories for generations of local children. Originally built to last for twenty years, the playground is now ready for its second life. The Highland Park Community Council (HPCC), the City of Pittsburgh, design firm Merritt Chase, and other neighborhood groups are collaborating with the community to embark on a redesign and reconstruction in the years 2020-21. The goal is to make a playground that will be imaginative, interactive, nature-based, and inclusive for all ages and abilities. Help Make the Playground Super Duper! Like the original endeavor in 1991, the Highland Park Super Duper Playground Project will be a collaborative effort. Community members, both young and old, will be invited to give their feedback and ideas through a series of surveys, community meetings, and other forms of outreach. You can sign up for updates from the city on this project via the Engage Pgh <https://engage.pittsburghpa.gov/highland-park-super-playground> site. There is a new Playground page <http://hpccpgh.org/playground> on the HPCC website where we will post updates and more info about the history of the playground.
