Then I got an email from a HP-er who is presently in Canada and offered to pick up a box for me ! At least 5 others replied. Does everyone who answered actually eat it? Spotted Lanternfly Nymphs in Neighborhood

A few weeks ago I noted little black bugs with white spots clinging to the stems of my winterberry bushes. It turns out these are the nymphs of the dreaded spotted lanternfly. Here is a good link showing photos: https://cals.cornell.edu/new-york-state-integrated-pest-management/outreach…. Sine then, they've moved to my grape-vine. Following some advice on the internet, I tried squirting them with white vinegar. This was kind-of fun, like a video game, because they immediately jump a good distance when they are hit, but I don't think it did any damage, (other than to the leaves of the plants due to the acidic nature of the vinegar.) Next I tried cider vinegar mixed with several squirts of Dawn dish detergent. This worked really well! The soap acts as a wetting agent, so the vinegar sticks to the bug and kills it in a few seconds. I'm not worrying about harm to the foliage, since the robins eat all my grapes anyway. I think that hosing down the leaves right after spraying will reduce the damage. Later in the season, the nymphs turn red and are too big and fat to jump. Last year, I saw them on my butterfly weed. I tried shaking them into a pan of water, but they just floated and escaped. This year I will add soap to the water--I think that will work. Richard Krepski
