Hi neighbors - Do you like supporting public schools? Nothing better to do on a Tuesday night? Really into Mad Mex Margaritas? Come join the Fulton PTA at Mad Mex in Shadyside on Tuesday, 3/7! Fulton PTA was scheduled to have a fundraiser evening at Mad Mex back in April 2020, which was cancelled due to COVID. We were recently contacted by the restaurant to see if we wanted to reschedule for March 7, and we said absolutely! Tickets are $60 for this adults-only event and includes dinner, dessert, and one adult beverage (more are available for purchase). We are THRILLED to announce our Second Highland park house concert of the year The concert is April 14 FROM 7-10 PM (c’mon your taxes will wait!) And the music is from a wonderful PITTSBURGHER who a) released a GREAT CD in Dec 2022 and b) moved to Pittsburgh from Nashville Our artist My Politic. Their most recent CD is Missouri Folklore and it is wonderful!!! Part autobiographical, part conceptual, every song on Missouri Folklore is set against the backdrop of the Ozark Mountains, which served as the landscapes of longtime friends and bandmates Kaston Guffey and Nick Pankey's early years. Through reflective, imagery-driven songwriting, the pair honestly examine the tangled webs we weave, often overshadowed by the doldrums of everyday life in small-town America. "There are songs about judgment, existentialism, forgiveness, love, death, growing, and healing," Guffey says. "It's a lot of material focused on the nuance and mundanity, in some sense, of being a person." Lonesome Highway’s review got it right: Songs like Cursing At the Night and At the Morning (memories that bite), Maybe It’s Love (random liaisons between strangers), Gina and Leroy (dead-end lives, trying to change), Albuquerque (a junkie trying to reform in prison), Driving Home To You (death of a brother in the war), are all tales of quiet dignity with people trying to make life work out better. The sweet vocal tones are the perfect accompaniment for the fluid musicianship and style on this album. At a very generous fifty-four minutes in length there is something here for all tastes. Another masterclass in subtle artistry. There also will be an air hockey tournament while they are getting set up. The concert will start promptly at 7:30 pm. Other details: 1. Safety is first. Thus, we ask that people who come are vaccinated. If it is indoor there will be masking unless eating 2. We will have a bit of drinks and snacks but are really open to people bringing other things they want to share! 3. So everyone can enjoy the concert, please only bring kids over 10 years old or if they can be quiet and really attend to the concert. Once the concert starts the only focus will be on the amazing musicianship. 4. After the concert we will be asking for donations. It is their livelihood so please come prepared to give. 5. Roof soffit and Masonry repair

Hello, I have a strange repair and just noticed it this week. At the bottom of one of the gables the fascia board has cracked and it appears the masonry (only a few brick) below have been punched in. Very strange - it is so high up (3rd story). Can anyone give a reference of someone who could look at this to find out what happened and how to repair it? Would also like recommendations on Masonry repointing. Thanks so much! Robin

Free: well-loved sheepskin rug, 6'x9'

The Roomba can't deal with our well-loved sheepskin rug so we're finally saying goodbye. It's 6'x9', somewhat sun-bleached, and a little ratty, but...free! We shook it out before we rolled it up but it could probably still use a good cleaning. Let me know when works for you if you're interested in porch pickup. --Marie

Cast iron drain cleaning

Hi neighbors - My old cast iron drain lines have an impressive amount of build-up on the inside. Anyone have experience using a plumber for cast iron descaling? I'm interested to hear about your experience and who you used. Thanks, Ben
