Greetings, Someone asked in person (over a 20 foot gap between our back yards) how to post a message to the Highland Park list. It’s simple but maybe not obvious to some who might only be reading and not posting. 1) Address an email to neighborhood(a)highlandparkpa.com You can also put it in your address book. 2) Add a subject line, write your message in the body, and hit send. (just like a normal email) The message first, goes to the group monitor, and then if approved, gets sent out to the whole list. ---- To reply to a message: Hitting Reply will reply only to the sender. This is not monitored or sent back to the group. It only goes to the original sender. Example: If someone hits reply to this message then I’m the only one that gets that reply. However, Choosing Reply All will reply to the sender and also send the same reply back to the HP list. Just trying to be helpful. Steve Karl

HP Save the Post Office Contest ends Thursday

There are two categories in this contest: one for those aged 12 and younger, and one for those aged 50+. Details are below. You can win great post office merch. Since this contest is being listed only on the HP Listserv, you have a great chance of winning in your category. 1. The Young Person's HP Save the Post Office contest: Contestants must be age 12 or younger. Contestants should e-mail me a paragraph (at least three sentences) or more saying “Why I think the post office is important and should be saved.” Each winner will win a piece of post office merchandise (examples below). There will be two winners. One winner will be drawn at random from all young people entered who send at least a paragraph on the topic. The second winner will be chosen based on what I believe is the best original piece of writing submitted about why saving the post office is important. As part of the entry, I need to know the name and age of the young person entering, and the area (HP, Friendship, Shadyside, etc.) where they live. I’ll talk with the winners to find out which piece of post office merchandise they would like, and we’ll agree on a prize (has to be within my budget). Then I’ll buy the items and have them shipped directly to the winners. Examples of post office merchandise (all of which are within my budget) include: The Art of Magic Kit with Stamps, a Marvin Gaye screen-printed poster, a U.S. Mail Carrier Toddler/Kids Costume (Halloween is coming), a U.S. Mail Carrier Dog Costume (Halloween is coming), an Earth Day t-shirt (currently back ordered), a T-Rex 3D Puzzle & Notecard Set, and more. August NRP (Used to be FOCUS Pittsburgh) collection this Thursday, 27 AUG 2020, starting at 9:00 AM for Non-Perishable Food ONLY

Dear Neighbors, First of all, we hope you and yours are safe and well !!! There have been a couple of drives to get supplies to NRP (used to be FOCUS) during the last two months, but we did not wish to take away from the efforts directly helping those within our own neighborhood, so have handled setting up meals, etc, there. They have had limited access to the public coming in one by one, so the needs have been a little less, but with Quarantine opening up, they are again expanding their availability to those in need. We are again letting our neighborhood know that we will be driving the neighborhood picking up for the monthly NRP Collection this Thursday, 27 AUG 2020. We will be around the neighborhood at 9:00 AM that morning, so we are looking for non-perishable food ONLY to restock there pantry. PLEASE NO CLOTHES on this month's pickup, as NRP has moved locations, and is working on setting up both storage, as well as distribution at the new location. Reminder, not only has Focus moved a couple of blocks, but has also changed its name to Neighborhood Resilience Project (NRP), however it remains under the direction of Father Paul Abernathy. Please note the attachment with their Mission Statement and Impact Programs. Please donate, as these are all needed and we are running our monthly pick-up from the neighborhood for Supplies for FOCUS, now Neighborhood Resilience Project !!! Mike and Brigette Nadler, are coordinating the Highland Park pick up. If you are inclined to help, leave the supplies on your front porch, then we will pick up and get your donations to FOCUS, now Neighborhood Resilience Project (NRP). So we are doing this again this Thursday, 27 AUG 2020. We will be around starting at 9:00 AM, and need to get the donations there by noon. Please DO NOT drop off here, as we do not have a way of storing donations.
