Books for people in Allegheny County Jail

Hello neighbors, Allegheny County Jail has decided, reportedly for the sake of safety, to stop receiving book donations as of December 28th (you can read about it here: https://www.publicsource.org/allegheny-county-jail-book-restricted-inmate-m… ). Instead they will provide people held there with a tablet holding only about 200 books, and to which people will have access for 90 minutes/day. This is being fought by various organizations. But planning for the worst, we can help ease this troubled situation by donating books up until the deadline. If you would like to donate, but don’t have the means to travel to a donation location, please drop your donations off at our house and we will take them for you. I’ve attached a flyer with specifics on what they are looking for. We live at 5901 Hampton St, corner of Euclid and Highland. Please leave your donations on the back porch, which is more protected from the rain than the front. Thank you for helping others in our community! Free stroller handle mitt

When we gave away our BOB jogging stroller with all accessories a couple of months ago, I forgot to include this handle bar mitt because it was packed away with winter things. It snaps onto the handle bar and should fit on most strollers. Really essential to cold-weather walking; my hands are always cold even with gloves on, so the mitt made them feel like they were also in my pockets. Free to whoever wants it. Sent from my iPhone

Support Fulton's Book Fair!

Do you remember book fairs when you were a child? The anticipation brought on by the flyer in your bookbag. Looking at all the options and circling a few (or many) things you wanted. Negotiating with your grownups over which ones to buy. Holding tightly onto the money sent into school and choosing the Perfect Book. As many of you know, Pittsburgh Public Schools students have not been attending school in person since March. While our teachers have done their best through this new medium to support their students, there is nothing like having a book in hand for young readers. At Pittsburgh Fulton, we are lucky to have a wonderful, engaging librarian interested in creative ways to reach students. The school has set up a book fair this month for students to have the chance to choose a book or two, and send it directly to their homes. While many families are able to participate in the book fair without struggle, we know that other families are not able to do so, especially during a pandemic. Fulton has set a goal to make sure every child can receive a book from the book fair this year to bring some joy and semblance of normalcy to their days. To do so, Pittsburgh Fulton PTA has set up a fund to collect donations to provide a book for every student. Neighbors helping Hello Neighbor!

This month, the HPCC is joining with St. Andrew's to conduct a toiletries and cleaning products drive for Hello Neighbor! If you aren't familiar with Hello Neighbor!, it's a nonprofit organization founded by a Highland Park resident that supports our newest neighbors, recently resettled refugee families. Please help these families as they settle into a new life. Donated items must be new. They can be left in the collection barrels on St. Andrew’s Rectory Porch, 5801 Hampton Street, from Dec 1 through Jan 15 during daylight hours. Good morning, neighbors. St. Andrew's and the HPCC have partnered with Hello, Neighbor to help families this winter. Hello, Neighbor is a local organization that helps refugee families. Please see the attached flyers for more information. We will be collecting the needed items on the porch of the St. Andrew's offices from today through January 15. There are specially marked barrels that will be taken into the Church nightly. Many of the items are small and under five dollars. St. Andrew's is located on the corner of Hampton and North St. Clair Streets. Thank you on behalf of St. Andrew's, the HPCC and Hello, Neighbor.
