In Need of Tarps, Car Pet Barriers, and Plexiglass for Rides to the Polls

Hello, We are students from a City of Bridges (a local high school). We are currently planning to help voters to the polls during the early registration scheduled times and on election day. We are emailing you to ask if you could help us with keep us with our goal to keep everyone safe and get as many people to the polls as possible. Thankfully local leaders have been supportive of our mission and made donations. Here’s what we need by Friday, October 23, 2020: 1. Tarps and Car Pet Barriers - to borrow, only, and sanitized upon return. The tarps will be used to cover the seats and changed out, sanitized, and air dried between each voter. The Car Pet Barriers with be designed with plexiglass to be a transferable barrier between each vehicle. 2. Plexiglass - we are looking for spare pieces that we could have to attach to the car pet barriers. If you would be willing to let us borrow the plexiglass please know we will need to punch a few holes around the edges. If you have any of these items please email us if you would be willing to donate or loan them for the day. What's with the Sycamores?

Every years the leaves of our street Sycamores (actually London Plane Trees) start drying up and falling in August--I have to keep raking them for weeks. This year it's mid-October and they're still mostly green, even though we had a dry summer. Is this happening all over or just to our trees? Is it a diminished response to some disease or due to some environmental change. Do the trees know something that we don't? An inquiring mind wants to know. Richard K.

Volunteers needed: Bryant Street Parklet Clean-up Sat 10/24

I’m proud to announce that as of this month, the empty lot at the corner of Bryant Street and N. Euclid Avenue next to Casa Basil will officially become a community space! The parklet represents a unique collaboration between the property owner, the Highland Park Community Development Corporation (HPCDC), and the HPCC. Not only will the parklet provide an attractive green space in our business district for community members to enjoy, it is also a way for us to support our local businesses by creating more outdoor seating options for customers and visitors to Bryant Street. On Saturday, October 24, 11 am - 3 pm, we need your help removing trash, debris, overgrown shrubs, and the old broken picnic tables. We’ll be building new four wooden picnic tables, including one that is wheelchair accessible that will be located on a new compact gravel path. We’ll also be decorating the space for fall with mums, hay bales, and other seasonal decorations.
