Basement Waterproofing Recommendations

Hi neighbors - seems like this summer has been rough on a lot of basements. Here are the recommendations that you all asked for, in the order that they were received. Thanks for the responses! 1. We had a very good experience with Charles Ashkenazi and know several people who were also pleased with his work – when you meet him, don’t be surprised, he’s an ex-biker who was involved in a serious motorcycle accident. He’s a good guy and knows his stuff. You can reach him at 412-292-9533 2. We got quotes from Highland, Baker, and Everdry. Ever dry got terrible Yelp reviews and is not on the Better Business Bureau website. Highlander is not on Yelp but got an A+ on BBB. Bakers got 3 stars on Yelp and an A+ on BBB. The quotes are around 8k. We are scheduled with Baker for January, the earliest date they had available. If there are any cancellations we are on a waitlist. 3. Two years ago I used Rick Fountain 724-969-6005. No problem since. Easy to work and at a reasonable price. 4. I had my basement waterproofed by MidAtlantic Waterproofing. Before the waterproofing, when it rained I had little rivers of water running through my basement to the point where I could hear the water running down the drain while I was in my kitchen. I've had no water or dampness in my basement since. It was very expensive but certainly worth it. 5. We used Keystone Basement Systems to repair a crack in the foundation where water was coming in. They also did some mold removal in the basement. We were happy with the company and their work. They show up at a lot of local fairs/festivals and I think we had a 10% off coupon from one that they honored. 6. Ever dry waterproofing did a good job at our house! 7. I just used Highlander Basement Waterproofing and was satisfied with the results 8. I *would not* recommend Ark Basement Systems. While my basement floor is dry, the job was quite messy, for a lack of a better descriptor. The workers left lots of food and drink containers/wrappers/trash in my basement over the 4-day job....and smoked cigarettes in my basement (I do not smoke and don't allow others to do so). One of my foundation walls ended up with a large crack in it and it took a long time to have a discussion/agreement for repair. Their service is said to come with a yearly "check-up" in which the French drain's functionality is tested; we've called repeatedly to have this service performed, only to have the agreement honored inconsistently. To be quite honest, I felt taken advantage of because my family is on a very, very strict budget, and we had to do some serious saving in order to have, what we thought was a much needed repair complete. They say they are a "family company," which, I imagine, is supposed to demonstrate integrity, but I would disagree. 9. We used Advanced Basement Solutions three years ago and were very happy with them. Am using them again in September to finish up French drains along a few more walls. Their price has gone up a bit from last time, but they are great. 10. A friend recommended a family member of his, Bill Davis: 724-321-8133

Dear News Director and Assignment Desk. > > Lake Carnegie in Pittsburgh Highland Park will be dedicated by Eastminster Presbyterian Church on Sunday September 9, 2018 to the Healing of families and safe streets in our neighborhoods. We believe families who visit the Lake to fish their will grow stronger relationally as they raise their young in a more intimate environment. We also believe that our youth will gain wisdom and greater respect for one another as they learn to spend time outdoors fishing. > > Lake Carnegie is a popular spot for ducks and geese, now the water fowl is sharing that valuable space with families fishing. The lake has not seen this activity since 1996 when the old fishing shed was torn down. Last year, July 18 and 19, 2017 members of the community volunteered to set aerators in the bottom of the lake to improve the quality of that stagnate body of water. With a lot of negotiating with State and City officials Lake Carnegie came alive again on June 23, 2018 more than two hundred families attended Pittsburgh's first inner-city fishing derby. The last fishing derby was held in1936. > > We have seen great things happen at the lake as families take advantage of the free fishing lessons offered by Minister Edward Caldwell and the Lets go fishing Ministry. The ministry is comprised of Anglers from several local Pittsburgh Churches who volunteer to teach fishing skills to those who want to learn. The Lets go Fishing ministry has provided fishing opportunities for Pittsburgh youth for the last sixteen years in Butler County.
