Hi Neighbors, Allison Plummer here. My start-up TransitSource is thrilled to announce that we will be piloting in September as a part of PGH Lab, examining close-call passing events between cars and bikes on *Negley Ave* using our Sentinel Box technology. Cyclists, we need your help. All you have to do is ride your normal route with our app on your smartphone and our hardware on your bike. We want to inspire more people to get on their bikes, and we know that safety is a big obstacle. Safe passing information, en mass, will help riders make the safest routing decisions that best align with their comfort level. Cyclist safety has been in the headlines recently due to the loss of Dan Flanagan and here's the thing, simply reacting to crash data time and time again means that something bad always has to happen for infrastructure to change. This is too late and is exactly the problem the Sentinel Box System can solve. Our technology can give decision makers the urgent safety data they need to inspire change before irreversible damage is done. You can learn more about our product here <http://www.transit-source.co/sentinel-box>, but the tl;dr is the Sentinel Box is bike-mounted hardware that uses sound to detect when a car passes too closely. Used in parallel with the Sentinel App, close call event information is geocoded, timestamped and sent up to the cloud so that all events across all users can be aggregated and trouble areas become clear. We're looking for 5 volunteers who commute along Negley between Stanton Ave and Ellsworth Ave (doesn't have to be that whole stretch) to ride around with our hardware for 1 month.
