Stolen Bikes on 800 block of Farragut

Neighbors, Unfortunately, last night someone came onto our porch and stole 2 of the 4 bikes that were locked together. The lock is also missing, presumably cut. They stole an aluminum purple Trek 6000 mountain bike (no front shock) and red Schwinn Point Beach cruiser. These bikes had sentimental value to us, and would very much appreciate it if everyone could keep an eye out for them. Also unfortunately, we don't have good pictures of either bike, so I have attached a good representative picture of the beach cruiser and the Trek picture shows the unique purple color. Stop Sign = STOP at Jackson and Heberton

Hi Neighbors, My daughter boards the school bus at the intersection of Jackson and Heberton, which is a 4-way stop with stop signs on each corner. Waiting with her each morning, I'm astonished by the number of folks who go through this intersection with just the shortest of pauses, not even coming close to a rolling stop, much less a full-on stop, when there aren't other cars at the intersection already. This is a pretty busy intersection for pedestrians and cyclists - several different school busses stop here throughout the morning, there's kids walking to Dilworth, teens walking up to Obama, folks walking up to the park to exercise, lots of cycling commuters going through on their way to work etc. It can also be pretty foggy in this area in the fall and spring. When driving through, please pay attention to the stop sign. It's there for a reason, not just for when you see another car. Thanks, Martha -- Martha Riecks mriecks(a)gmail.com

Zone 5 CRIME ALERT - TRIPLE SHOOTING - HOMEWOOD

This was NOT in Highland Park, but I wanted to share the Commander’s alert with everyone. Monica From: Lando, Jason Sent: Wednesday, September 16, 2015 10:59 PM To: Jason Lando <jason.lando(a)pittsburghpa.gov> Subject: ** CRIME ALERT - TRIPLE SHOOTING - HOMEWOOD ** On Wednesday, September 16th, shortly after 9:00pm, Zone 5 officers responded to a report of three people shot in the area of Monticello Street & N. Lang Avenue, in Homewood. Officers discovered a 3 year-old had been grazed in the face, a 12 year-old had been shot in the leg, and a 49 year-old had also been shot in the leg. The two children were taken to UPMC Children's Hospital while the adult was taken to UPMC Presbyterian. All victims are now in stable condition. Witnesses at the scene indicated that, at the time of the shooting, there was a candlelight vigil taking place for a young man who had been killed two years ago. During this vigil, unknown males emerged from between two houses and began firing at the participants at the vigil. It is believed at this time that someone attending the vigil then returned fire. The investigation is being handled with the newly-formed GVI (Group Violence Intervention) team, working out of Major Crimes. Zone 5 officers and detectives will be assisting GVI on this investigation. More information will be released as it becomes available. -- Cmdr.
