I sent a request out to Highland Park residents for doctor recommendations about a week ago. I currently have UPMC doctors but as I have Highmark Blue Shield insurance I need to find new doctors. I am in my 60's and am in good health, and I asked for recommendations for an internist or a GP. Many people asked me to forward the recommendations as they also cannot continue with UPMC doctors. Thank you everyone for your wonderful response and support. June ________________ Doctor recommendations: I also have had to switch from a wonderful doctor I have spent many years with; am also 60's in overall excellent health - just need annual check-ups and routine stuff - - I recently went to West Penn Medical Assoc at 4727 Friendship Ave and met with Dr Mary Lynn Sealey. She was perfect! She and her PA provided me with an excellent examination and discussion of various issues. I would highly recommend her. I was in the exact same position and I too am angry that I am being denied health care by the UPMC a non-profit organization that my tax dollars support. The good news is that I found a great doctor that came highly recommend by several of my friends. Her name is Katherine Homrock, she is an internist with Metro Community Health Center located at 1789 S. Braddock Avenue (Edgewood Towne Center). Plenty of free parking! Her office efficiently run, I don’t think that I have waited more than 5 minutes to be seen. I also like that she calls you with test results, etc. I find Dr. Homrock to be very accessible and a good listener. By the way my husband is also switching to Dr. Homrock. I wish you the best of luck in finding a new health care provider I was in the same situation last year. I'm pretty satisfied with Dr Gluhanick, so far. I just switched to her. She is very attentive and I never feel rushed. She LISTENS to me. She's with West Penn Medical Associates located in Friendship. I moved into the area recently from out of state and also have Highmark/Blue Shield. After lots of research I found Dr. Madhuri Mahajan….she is a very compassionate and caring person. I only have had the establishment of care appointment so I cannot speak to other issues. However, I did a lot of research and I really liked her. If you give her a try please let me know how it worked out. I am biased, but my sister-in-law is a GP and is a dedicated patient advocate. My doc is Cieselka. Exceptional doctor. Long-standing practice. I am a woman close to your age and I am very satisfied and happy with my doctor, Dr Margaret Morton & associate, Dr Francis Irvin, both female physicians in Sq Hill near Mineo's Pizza on Murray Ave. The office is NOT affiliated with either UPMC or Highmark (as far as I know & I was there in November). I highly recommend these women. Great staff too. I've been a patient there for at least about 10 years. p.s. I work in the medical field and thus find it gratifying to work together with these docs when I question some things. I am happy (now for 13 years) with Dr. Kathleen Homrock at Metro Family Practice. Unfortunately they have moved to 'Edgewood Plaza in Regent Square. _________________________

Request for Items for the Homeless Shelter

This is a follow-up to the request that someone posted for emergency needs due to extreme weather conditions for Operation Safety Net Outreach Program. At this time, Outreach Program can use new underwear for men and women, backpacks, and a big thing for women are pads/tampons. If you have any backpacks, new underwear and/or socks, backpacks and sample size soap/shampoos/conditioners, there's a box on my porch at 5716 Hampton Street where you can drop them, if you are so inclined. I drop items off every 2 weeks or so at Mercy Health Center on the South Side. Mercy has an extensive program to help the homeless in our area. Thanks in advance. Regards, Bonnie
