2014 Great Highland Park Yard Sale on June 1st

For those of you who missed the earlier post or prefer a reminder closer to the date of the yard sale... Neighbors, One of my favorite quotes is from the founder of 1-800-Got-Junk: "You are what you can't throw away." When I look at what I have laying around the house and think about this quote, I tense up. I don't want my possessions to define me, and I REALLY don't want the stuff lying in the basement to define me. It is time to reduce the clutter. Clean out those closets, empty out the basement, and make some money in the process. The Highland Park Community Council coordinates the Great Highland Park Yard Sale. As in years past, we expect over a thousand bargain hunters to visit the neighborhood. It will be held on Sunday, June 1st, beginning at 9am. It lasts as long as you like; things generally quiet down around 1pm. For those with limited yard space or foot traffic, there will be a flea market at the corner of Bryant and Highland. Please note on the form if you are interested in being stationed at the flea market. Call me at (412)999‑7568 or email to YardSale(a)HighlandParkPA.com for additional information. The Bryant Street Festival will be held in the afternoon. Stop by after the yard sale to see everyone and grab a bite to eat. To generate interest in the yard sale HPCC will post an advance, no-address, listing on the Highland Park website. This has been a big success. The website experiences record traffic in the week as people searched for items to buy. Get your yard sale form in early so treasure hunters can take a look at what you'll be selling. It is east to participate. This year you have the option to sign up via the Highland Park Community Council website. Visit www.hpccpgh.org and click on the yard sale link register. Request for help - Highland Park Yard Sale

Neighbors, The annual Great Highland Park Yard Sale is fast approaching and I have a favor to ask. I could use a little help. There are many activities which must take place in order for us to have a successful yard sale. None of them, individually, take much time to complete. Some are administrative, others are technical, and on the day of yard sale they are interpersonal. All are interesting. The activity off greeting people and handing out maps and sale listings the day of the sale is particularly fun and invigorating. The tasks to be performed are as follows: Advertising Getting in touch with newspapers to place classified ads, coordinating with the HPCC website, and identifying locations to post signs Editing Reviewing sale item listings and applying formatting rules in preparation for publication Greeting Handing out maps and sale listings at strategically located street corners in Highland Park - shifts are two-hours beginning at 9am and 11am on Sunday, June 1st Logistics Collecting items to be included in yard sale seller packets and assembling the packets Technical Creating a neighborhood map with locations of yard sales identified (Google Maps experience would be useful) and placing/maintaining the Craigslist advertisement Please consider donating some of your time to help with this uniquely Highland Park event.
