Hi, My name is Syreeta Gordon, and I'm a outreach coordinator at Assemble, a community space for art and technology in Garfield. I run our Saturday Crafternoon program, and I wanted to let you know about some upcoming youth workshops that might be of interest to your organization and the children you work with. Paint a Pittsburgh landscape with your mother on Mother's Day! How fun! You can either bring a photo of a scene you would like to create, or there will be photos of Pittsburgh on hand to work from.You don't have to have any experience to participate, just a willingness to have fun during the creative process. The class is geared toward folks 18 and older, but exceptions can be made. The class teaches students how to use just two colors (complimentary colors) to create vibrant scenes of The Steel City. The "complimentary color technique" was invented by local artist Ryan Ian McCormick. He created this approach due to his colorblindness and inability to see "in-between colors." So, come out and learn this new, and unique way to paint landscapes of Pittsburgh! One ticket includes mom and anyone else you wants to paint with her. Included in the price are professional-grade brushes and acrylic paint to use, professional instruction, and a 14" x 18" canvas to take home. There will be an open studio on July 6th at Assemble, free to anyone taking the class, to continue work. Also, there will be a reception on August 24th, at Assemble Art Gallery, for anyone who participated in the class to display their work. The class starts promptly at 10 a.m. and runs until 2 p.m. (Feel free to share this information in your newsletter or print the flyers and hand them out to kids and their families.) Garden plants for sale!

Hey, folks. You're all folks in my neighborhood that I know have either had a garden in the past, or I know enjoy fresh veggies. This year, I decided to grow a bunch of seedlings and sell them. If you're interested, please let me know. We will deliver them anytime after Mother's Day. I'm attaching a list, with pictures & descriptions, of what I know I have for sure. There are other things planted which are too small to assess for sure right now (lots of flowers) and then some other things that I will be planting within the next week or so -- melons & cucumbers. I'll be selling any remaining plants at the Bryant Street Festival on June 1st. Plants will be $3 - $4 each, depending on size. Some of the containers may hold more than one plant (smaller herbs, etc.) If you're interested, just let me know what you'd like and how many of them. Some of them are of limited supply, though, so I can't guarantee that I'll have everything you want. The plants are all non-GMO, and most of them are heirloom. I use all natural methods of fertilization & pest control. I've grown every one of these in containers in past seasons, so you don't need to have an actual garden plot. Just know that tomatoes would need a larger container than something like basil. I'd also be happy to offer any advice & help with growing (nothing highly physical as I am on crutches). If you just love tomatoes but don't want to grow them, I'll be selling some tomatoes throughout the season as well, when we have extra that we can't get to canning on time. Thanks, all! Sweet beautiful cat needs a home

Dear Neighbors, Piccolo is a sleek black one-year-old cat with green eyes and an affectionate personality who needs a new home (photo attached). When he was a kitten, I brought him into a household with two older established cats. Recently these two have begun harassing Piccolo to the point that he stays in hiding unless I sequester him on a different floor from my other two. I have reluctantly concluded that he will be best served if I can find a new home for him. He is friendly with other cats (his two litter mates who also live at my house) and he loves human contact. Piccolo is a rescue cat from Animal Rescue. He has been spayed and is in good health. I have his veterinary records. In Recital This Thursday!

Internationally renowned pianist Eugene Alcalay will be in recital at St. Andrew's Church, Pittsburgh, on Thursday evening, April 24, at 7:30 p.m. He will be playing works by Beethoven, Liszt, Schubert, and Shostakovich. A reception will follow. The evening is offered in memory of Linda Fischer, longtime member of the PSO and friend of St. Andrew's and may in our wider community. Suggested donation is $10 (students free with ID), and all proceeds are dedicated to the St. Andrew's Organ Fund, as we gather resources for needed repairs and renewal of our historic Skinner pipe organ.
