Highland Park Residents, Our office has received several calls from constituents who have recently received parking tickets in and around the Bryant Street business district. Many of these tickets were the result of the constituent parking too close to the corner, making it hard for the Port Authority buses that have routes there to turn. To make sure everyone is informed of the rules, our office has compiled a list of common parking violations people receive tickets for in the Bryant Street business district. These violations can be found in the PA State Code and the Pittsburgh Municipal Code. These ordinances are state and federal laws written to protect both pedestrians and drivers. As always, please don’t hesitate to contact our office with any questions. *Pittsburgh Municipal Code* *Section 541.01- Prohibitions in Specified Places* Except when necessary to avoid conflict with other traffic or to protect the safety of any person or vehicle or in compliance with law or the directions of a police officer or official traffic control device, no operator of a vehicle shall, and no owner of a vehicle shall allow the vehicle to: (b) Stand or park a vehicle: (1) In front of public or private driveway or within three (3) feet thereof (2) *Within fifteen (15) feet of a fire hydrant* (3) *Within twenty (20) feet of a crosswalk at an intersection.* (4) Within *thirty (30) feet *upon the approach to any flashing signal, *stop sign*, yield sign or traffic control signal located at the side of a roadway. On the 100th anniversary of its founding in 1913, the Mellon Institute of Industrial Research is being recognized for its role in creating scientific advances that established a number of major industries including Union Carbide and Dow Corning. From its beginnings, the success of this prestigious research institution resulted from the vision and support of two prominent Pittsburgh brothers, financiers and philanthropists Richard B. Mellon and Andrew W. Mellon. At a ceremony on Thursday March 28, a National Historic Chemical Landmark Award will be presented by the American Chemical Society. The ceremony will take place from 3:30 pm to 5:00 pm at the Mellon Institute building at Fifth and Bellefield Avenues in Oakland. It is free and open to the public. Over the years, many professionals living in Highland Park have been involved in research work at the University of Pittsburgh and Carnegie Mellon University, major cosponsors of this historic event, and are invited to attend.
