[Highland Park] A reminder about dumpsters

Just a reminder that a dumpster in front of someone's house is NOT an invitation to dump your own personal stuff. Homeowners pay for permits to have dumpsters and pay to have the dumpsters themselves, and usually, we need all of the space for our own construction debris. I can understand throwing away a paper bag or something when you walk past, but today I noticed two giant black garbage bags that are well over the top level of our already almost full dumpster, and we certainly didn't put them there, and these are only the most recent large items I've noticed have been dumped. To use homeowners' dumpsters as your own personal dumping ground is unfair and unreasonable, as I'm sure most of the people on this list understand. If you are in need of resources for disposing of large items or trash that can't easily be put out on Sunday night, email the list and ask about your options, don't just throw your trash in the first open dumpster you see. Hello Highland Park This monday is our next Jazz night, featuring our house band, Slide Worldwide. Doors will open at 6:30, and there is a $5 cover at the door. We will be featuring a light summery BBQ themed menu. Some highlights include BBQ 1/4 chicken with braised greens & corn bread, Grilled Corn on the Cob, BBQ pulled pork sandwiches, Mussels with charred tomatoes, jalepenos & lime. We will also have some Bruges Favorites available like, burgers, macaroni & cheese, and salads. Our featured drink for the evening will be $6 Brother Thelonious drafts. [Highland Park] Tile roof/masonry/water infiltration recs?

Hi neighbors - We are looking for recommendations for roofers or contractors who have experience working with terra cotta tile roof tiles. We have some water infiltration in our living room on our chimney breast, ceiling, and adjacent wall and need to have it addressed from the outside. Our exterior walls are brick and terra cotta brick, so someone with masonry experience would be needed. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, especially if you've had a positive or negative experience with a certain contractor. Many thanks!

He's very sweet, and a lap cat! I took him to Animal Rescue League in East Liberty. They are having free adoptions tomorrow! [Highland Park] Trouble getting our dining room chairs back from repair (fwd)

Can anyone help? Last year there was a Post Gaz. article about a father and son custom furniture business who also do repairs. The article had photos of their large studio and was quite flattering about how the father, now in his 70's had created or replicated many great pieces for prominent Pittsburghers. In March, I telephoned them and spoke with the father who ultimately came by and picked up 4 antique chairs to be repaired. He was very nice and we had a good visit: widower, lives in Churchill, etc. has very bad knees, etc. We were not in a great hurry but I phoned him in early May and he said that he was just touching up the finish and could deliver them the next week. After I hear nothing more and could not reach him by phone, my husband and I drove over to the business in Millvale and found it locked but could see the shop through the window (in an old brick warehouse with no sign). As we are now out of town, I have continued to try to reach him both at the business phone and at home (the no. for which I had to get online, no lising in the Pgh. directory). The people at our house have heard nothing as well. Has anyone had any dealings with them? They are Gerald (or Jerry Garforth) Sr. and Junior.
