[Highland Park] URGENT MESSAGE FROM BRYANT STREET MARKET

Howdy HP'ers, I am asking for every ones input on my next adventure. Bryant Street Market has inquired about a license to sell beer, mainly 6 packs to go. What this means is, that if we get a license, we will have seating for 30 people with consumption being allowed inside the store (YIKES) and 6 packs to go. I'm pretty sure it's 2 beverages can be consumed inside, more on that later. The configuration of the store will change, in that the aisles of groceries would be redirected in some way. I am asking you all as neighbors to give me feedback--- Is this a good idea? Is this a bad idea? Do you think it will impact the street in a positive or negative way? Would you buy a 6 pack on your way to E2 or Smiling Banana Leaf? Would you like the convenience of stopping on your way home from work to grab a few cold ones? Would you like to enjoy one of our awesome sandwiches with a beer while checking out the Steeler game? Would it be a good idea to deliver 6 packs? What kind of beer would you like? Would you be worried we might sell beer to your teenager? (That ain't happenin') and so on. We want to start formulating a business plan so that we can move forward with this. I thought it would be a good idea to poll the neighborhood and see what type of reaction we would get. To give you all some insight on our thinking, we have a timeline of 1 year from now. This is a massive financial undertaking (debt for me), and as such, myself and my financier will leave no stones unturned. I believe the people in the neighborhood that have gotten to know me, consider me genuine, and know I truly care about what happens on the street. Our attorney is a long time HP resident, and as we move forward, we would like to incorporate other neighbors in as well. I think it is a good idea to try this, as do the few customers I already polled. We are not going to be open later, people won't be loitering outside drinking. Our main focus will be beer to go, but will have seating inside too, as the license stipulates. WE WILL *NOT *BE SELLING 40'S OR ANYTHING RELATED TO THAT......BEFORE ANYONE ASKS :) Simply, nice craft beers, maybe some big Belgians, etc....You tell me what you want, it's your store.....I'm here for you... Think about this and please get back to me by email, also stop by the store to chat. Please, all feedback is needed, good and bad, to assess the feasibility of this project. Everyone, I'm keeping up with the entries for this year's sale. As a result, I am able to accept applications through the end of the day on Monday, May 28th. The extended forecast for Sunday, June 3rd, is looking good, with sun and a high of 75 degrees. We have fewer participants this year and it's going to be great opportunity to sell off those items scattered around the house. Regards, Paul This year the yard sale will be on Sunday, June 3rd, beginning at 9am. The Highland Park Community Council coordinates the Great Highland Park Yard Sale. As in years past, we expect over a thousand bargain hunters to visit the community. We have a flea market at the corner of Bryant Street & Highland Avenue for those with limited yard space or foot traffic. Please note on the form that you would like to be in the flea market. Call for details. To generate interest in the yard sale we are providing an advance, no-address, listing on the Highland Park website ( http://www.highlandparkpa.com ). This will be posted once we have a sufficient number of listings. Last year this was a big hit. The website experienced a record amount of traffic as people searched for interesting items to buy. Neighbors - As if you didn't already have enough good reasons to go to the PSO Community Outreach concert next Saturday at ELPC ($10 grownups/free kids, world class symphony, all proceeds to area school music programs, etc.), here's another. Up for silent auction at the concert will be *four stained glass windows*created by Dilworth school families with the guidance of local artist Daviea Davis. 100% of the sale from these windows will go straight back into arts programming at Dilworth. I have attached photos of two of the windows that will be up for auction. The school curricular theme for the year was community; one window shows Pittsburgh at the end of the rainbow and the other has the sun shining on Dilworth's edible schoolyard. Imagine how stunning these would be as they capture the sunlight in your home's window... Questions? Email me. See you at the concert! [Highland Park] Motorcycles and the noise ordinance

I'm sure I am not the only one awakened night after night by *ridiculously loud* motorcycles flying through our neighborhood. These things have probably made small children cry, am I right? Turns out our city's noise ordinance does not apply to motorcycles. At the risk of being a wet blanket, I think it should. Our good councilman Patrick Dowd just received a letter from me about this. Thank you neighbors! I have received 4 recommendations for certified arborists. They are: 1) Arborel, a family owned company. 2) Horhut, recommended by the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy 3) DC Culley, used by several HP people and 4) Call Plum Line Nursery for a recommendation I'll do some investigation, make some calls, and let you know the outcome.
